Route Question?
Bob,
When you guys leave Asheville and head towards Fontana are you planning on going US #19 thru Maggie Valley and Cherokee; or taking the southern route which by-passes Sylva and Bryson City. My advice is that Cherokee might get a little busy on a Saturday morning. Highway US #23 and #74 is 4 lane from Clyde / Waynesville to Fontana Lake, which should be faster.
Assuming all goes well, I will be coming up NC#107 to Sylva, and then plan on going over on US#74 to pick up #28 at Lauada, which is where all the routes come together. If you take the southern route, I can plan on meeting up with you at the Dillsboro exit. (It's about 15 minutes from the Clyde exit off I-40.)
The forcast for our part of the mountains looks good for Saturday.

Terry,
We did not go thru Cherokee last year and I assume Phillip Deal, our tour guide, will lead us the same as last year, 40 to exit 27, thence 23/74, 19 & 28 to the dam. I'm not familiar with the area enough to tell you anything other than find a vantage view spot at the Dillsboro exit and watch for us and join in. You can call me at 919-649-8386 to check on our progress if you care to, assuming out cell phones work there...will I guess.
Glad you are are joining in and look forward to meeting you.

Bob,
FYI, there is a BP station on the overpass at the Dillsboro exit off Hwy. 23/74 & 441. Also a Holiday Express. I will be there by about 9:00 AM. If you hold to your schedule, you should be there about 9:15.
My car is blue with white stripes (something new and different) but I have a big #7 on the sides.
My only problem is we have a new puppy and will have to bring him along. He can't stay home alone all day. Carol may stay at the motel at the start of the tail with him, if he doesn't like the mountain ride up. He has traveled really well so far, but you never know.
Guys, do yourself a favor and be sure to wear comfortable driving shoes, and driving gloves if you've got them. This is a real tight road course, with LOTS of uphill and downhill curves, lots of shifting and braking!!!!!!!!!:D
