Serpent Express
I am considering buying a 14' aluminum Serpent Express trailer because of its size and weight. Are there any SE owners that could give some insight on this topic?

Larry Johnson, owner of S.E. hangs on ffcobra.com frequently so you should ask on that forum as well to get more on the trailer but by all accounts, an excellent "Cobra" specific trailer from what I can see.

Thanks for the responses.
I have e-mailed Larry and am supposed to give him a call this morning to discuss the SE trailer.
I am looking at the all aluminum 14' model.
Anyone coming back from near Flint, MI to Waco, TX in a tow rig in the next couple of months ? .... have I got a deal for you!
Jody

Aluminum SE, can't go wrong. I have one of the earlier steel models and, even with the extra weight, it tows really well behind just an 03 Ranger with 2WD and 206HP. You should be pleased with the unit.

Take a look at the actual weight of the alum vs. steel. You'll find it's not much. Is that little bit of weight savings worth that big expense? To me, it isn't. So I have a steel trailer with an alum deck.
The E-Track is really nice. Well worth the $75.
Get extra doors. I have 5 doors on mine.
You really only need 14' for the Cobra. But a couple of extra feet will make it easier to balance. And you'll have room in the front for a spare tire and a few other things.
The jack is fixed, not far behind the hitch. That means you can't lower a pick up tail gate with the trailer attached. An annoyance. A flip up jack is much better.

A great trailer. I have a 16' aluminum model that I'm quite pleased with. You will probably want to invest in a winch. 500 HP on aluminum ramps can lead to trouble.

Not to Hijack, but
How long does the cover last if the trailer is in the hot Texas sun all day? Anyone for Arizona have one?
Thanks,
Steve

Seagull81,
I have an SE in Southern California, Imperial Valley. We get lots of sun and heat here in the desert. I have it stored outside next to my house on the east side and it gets morning and afternoon sun. I cover it with the blue tarps from Costco. I have had it since 2006 and the top still looks like the day I brought it home. It only cost me about $18.00 every 6 months when it is time to replace the tarps. Costco's tarps are blue on one side and silver on the other. I cover it with the blue side up and a bunch of bungee cords.

Bob,
You have the lightweight "traction" grip type ramp. The All aluminum SE has a smoother diamond plate surface ramp that, if wet, could possibly be slippery. I personally use the alum type and have never had an issue. (But then, only 250 HP too )

galv ramps
The west coast galvanized ramps are like on Wayne W's (aka Secret Squirrel(:
The aluminum trailers have diamond plate ramps:
Trade offs:
- The aluminum SE's are lighter weight.
- The steel SE's have more traction on the ramps.
