Default Weber linkage comp 289

I'm getting confused.
Looking on the pictures of the competition 289 (FIA or USRRC) it seems to me the linkage is as following.
accelerator pedal - tower Pilot - rear left and right 48 IDA
This is going via a center linkage for stabilisation
Afterwards the left carb is conected to the other left carb and the same on the right side.

I'm getting now told I need to connect each of the four carbs directly to the center linkage?!??

What is correct and were can I order such setup?

My guess is that if you look at 10 different cars you will have at least five different versions.
They used IDM, IDF two different intakes and some say Mag manifolds.
If on the shelf - in the car.

As Jeff had stated the throttle linkage goes from the throttle pedal pivot mounted on the drivers foot box to the bell crank tower mounted on the rear of the drivers side cylinder head and then from the bell crank to the center pivot shaft mounted on the intake manifold. There were two different designs of linkage used on early opposed intake manifolds both used the center pivot shaft that was mounted in the center of the manifold and ran 1/2 the length of the intake manifold from front to back between two rod end bearings. The early setup used a linkage that ran from the center pivot to the rear or the left bank carb and then another linkage that ran from the rear left bank carb to the rear right bank carb, the front and rear carbs of both banks were coupled together with adjustable couplers. The later opposed linkage used linkages that connected to the center couplers inbetween the front and rear carbs on both banks.

Do you know if this is the only linkage connection to the left and right side Weber's, or if they've the same connection to the other pair of Weber's?



Unfortunately I can not verify it on your picture and as I need to start on ~field 1 I would like to do it correct.

Gotcha, you need the parallel linkage. I know you are wanting to maintain an original style setup so I would suggest individual (4) linkage rods that attach to the center pivot shaft. The rest of the linkage would be the same as the photo I posted with the bell crank and tower. I'll see if I have a photo of the parallel system.

Just for the record the color photo and the black and white photo of the different linkages I posted above are all SAI, the color photo is of CSX2155s engine and the black and white photo is from a SAI parts catalog.
When it comes down to it though, if you can make a linkage that works well for you and doesn't need constant adjusting it doesn't matter what it looks like unless you are trying to make it appear like the original SAI parts.

Here is a parallel SAI system that was removed from a Cobra in the early 1970s........

I'm glad to see the mention of non-opposing which now makes more sense for both options, opposing or non-opposing.

Versus parallel or opposing earlier in the thread, which makes no sense.

After all, all the setups are parallel.

If you walked into shop, and they asked which way your carbs are, and parallel was mentioned, I'm sure they would be odd looks.

All nice photos though.
