Question Weber Tuning snafu - need suggestions

I've been using my PLX devices logger on the car and I have discovered this problem...seemingly unsolvable, so I figured I'd throw it out for discussion/help.

I set my car up for idle, about 900-1000 rpm, 13.5AFR. When I just tip in the throttle the AFR pins to 20. After some investigation, it seems that the throttle plate is well below the lowest transition hole at idle. So when I tip in the throttle, the air flow increases but the first progression does not uncover immeadiately making it go very lean. Looking through the Weber Tuning manual they suggest beveling the under side of the throttle plate to advance the transition slightly, not an easy thing to do, nor do I think it will work as the throttle plte edge is well below the lowest transition hole.

The real problem comes in that just cruising around town, tipping in the throttle is done constantly, resulting is significant hesitation and backfires.

My solution thus far has been to set the idle mixture way rich, at say 10.5 and then the tip in is around 15. This results in plug fouling, throat burning exhaust stench, etc.

A good solution would be to add a lower transition hole but there is no room.

I'm looking for suggestions or experience in fixing this.

Thanks Chuck

How far out have you got the idle mixture screws Chuck, If they are out near 3/4 to 1 turn, screw them back into about a 1/4 turn and readjust your idle speed at the throttle plates with a unisyn or similar, this would raise the throttle plate closer to the transition holes to help.
