Nitto nto5r ??
Anyone have experience with this tire, demo's or pre-retail launch?
Tire looks cool and seems like it will hook up well.

March 2010 Issue of Popular Hot Rodding NITTO NT05R
The article does an initial test on the NTO5R Drag Radials. They "highly recommend" the tires. The magazine only had time for 2 runs, but incomparison, the NTO5R's are only a few 10th off pure slicks, with only one experimentation with tire pressure - they can't wait to do more testing to play with the tire pressure more. They "handle well on the road". Tread wear only "00". They look good too.

Jimbo,
I'd be easily convinced these are grand drag racing tires, considering who's doing the test.
I'd be highly skeptical about their street or road course manners.
Drag tires are usually purposely made with very flexible sidewalls to give them a larger fore-and-aft footprint length, and are usually run at relatively low pressures (sub 20 psi) to increase the footprint even more.
When turning, the flexible sidewall works against developing cornering force, and can make the rear break away suddenly and at relatively low speed compared with a normal street tire, or way less than a track tire.
If you use those tires for drag racing they sound fine. I'd be wary of using them on the street, and wouldn't even consider using them for a road race course track day.
Just some food for thought!
Tom

I bought them, put them on and dropped a full second of my E.T. at the strip. Went from 12.9 to 11.9 and from 2.0 60ft to 1.632 60ft. When they are a full pressure, not that much difference between the Goodyear Eagle F1's. No sloshing around like normal drag radials. Maybe not the best for autocross, but ok for the street most of the time. I feel safer in them because the back end isn't popping out all the time. Great tire, won't last too long with zero tread wear and don't drive in the rain, but otherwise - good stuff!
Nitto nto5r drag radials are amazing!!

I realize this is 2 yr old thread, but I thought I'd post my thoughts. I have the Nitto NT05R 275/17 tires on the back. I usually run around 24 psi with them and they handle noticeably better than the MT ET Street radials I used to have due to the Nittos having stiffer sidewalls. My one pass I made at the track yielded a 1.6 60 ft using them. I personally think they drive really well on the street and our club road rallies out in the country, but I don't drive in the rain. If you have a higher hp Cobra replica and need more traction, I think these are a great option. Cheers.
