Default How hard is replacing a half shaft on a BDR

I am heading to the strip this weekend with a new set of NT05R drag radials and everyone is telling me I am going to snap the half shaft on my Backdraft, how hard is it to replace if I do break it?

Default half shafts

Well, my nick name for sometime was half shaft. Snapped the first one on GY Eagles at Run N Gun. PS: Three BDR's snapped halfshafts at Run N Gun that year. Second one snapped on the street during a spirited take off, minor bump in the road, tires hopped and SNAP. Getting pretty good a changing them out. Thought about upgrading however what's the next weakest link. May not be as easy to change or as cheap. Start to finish the first time having never done it before about 6 hours by myself. That's tires off the ground, tires back on the ground. Second time 3 hours. These cars are NOT drag race cars. Take it easy on the launch you'll be alright. I ran the Nitto 05's on my car for a short while. Liked them, stickier than the GY's but only last 3,000 miles. I get 6,000 out of the GY's and run Nitto 01's on the track. Good luck, hope this helps.

Perfect, sounds like it is not the end of the world if I do break it. Thanks for the reply.

Jimbo

You should be made aware of the fact that there is generally a grey/silver Cobra with a IRS that sacrifises and half shaft whenever the Cobras go to Byron

Here is something else to think about. One of the Cobra's at Run N Gun a couple of years ago not only snapped a half shaft but when he did that he was traveling over 100 MPH on a drag strip and immediately slung him into a cement wall. The half shafts are easy to fix as long as it is just a half shaft. Smooth rolling start before you hammer it to much and you should be ok.

Jerry,
Yeah, but that's a Superformance (shoddy workmanship!), it is really titatium in color and you have that old guy Wolfie driving it! Just kidding Mr. Wolfie, by the way, I spoke with your son last night and he was very helpful with telling me how to launch and not snap the halfshaft. He said you did not get the message.

Exclamation Stupid Question - I take it back

I did 20 hard runs, the halfshaft works fine - even with Drag Radials!
