May 29 - Memorial Weekend Cruise
Memorial Weekend Cruise
Are you looking forward to the Memorial Day weekend as much as I am?
How about a cruise out to northwest Illinois? Believe me there are some outstanding roads out there.
Before you say, “Are you are kidding?” and close this post … let me tell you what if I through in a scenic drive with a view of a natural waterfall (yes they do exist in Illinois), lunch at a secluded restaurant on a beautiful lake – and most importantly my best attempt at a “Gary-style” Hocking Hills drive (former WCCC member that really knew how to take a group on a cool route while at the London Cobra Show).
Weather permitting, I am offering a great day of driving (sorry ladies, no shopping this go around) where getting out of second gear might be a challenge at some places, and providing a few spots to let the big dogs run. What do you say? Do you have 6 hours to invest (from the starting point – see below)? I will also map out the possible gas stops for you gas gulping big blocks – think of this outing as a Hocking Hills trial run by a “Gary wanna-be”.
If I caught your interest, think about meeting Peg and I at the Belvidere (just east of Rockford) I-90 oasis at 10A on Saturday, May 29. This will be a RSVP event, and it will be noted on the e-mail posting.
Watch your e-mail for details. If you have changed your e-mail address, or didn’t receive an e-mail for this trip today – send me a Private Message on this forum and I will e-mail the trip details. Let’s get the WCCC group out in force!

Hey!! What's the record for # of WCCC's for a driving event? We might be getting close if we haven't already eclipsed it. Very cool!

Allright! The group is up to 15 cars. I think the restaurant will have a fit - but we'll see. If we don't set off alarms or break windows as we pass through the small towns, I will be shocked.

Tim,
sue and i wont be able to make it, looks like this will be a great trip, wish i could be there.
If you get 15 cars you better split up in groups, it will be very hard to keep everyone together, and if you keep stopping so others can catch up, you may never get through the whole trip.

Fred: Thanks for the notice - we'll miss Sue and you. We have added David S., so we are still at 15 cars.

I am in for most of the trip. I will have to head back before we stop for lunch though. I will be at the Belvidere oasis before 10am gassed up and ready to go.

Just a fyi, I will have maps for each car in case people have to peel off and get back to meet other committments but still want to run the full route. Also, given the size of the group (28 people) we may take the quickest way to the restaurant so we don't get hung up too long to eat. I will be sending out a message tomorrow to those that have RSVP'd to meet somewhere between 9:30 and 9:45 at the oasis to have a drivers meeting before leaving at 10 (please don't be late - others have events because of the holiday w/e so we need to be rolling at 10). I will hopefully have a listing of cell numbers available (if you can hear them over the exhaust).
Just saw the weather, 81 partly cloudy - superb!
