A few years back I had a corvette and a 68 camaro pulled up to me at a light here in town, we left the light and I pulled him about a car and backed off,I didn't go much over speed limited or ran right to it. I had a unmarked HP about two cars behind me in traffic. He saw us and pulled both. I didn't know but in NC this cost me my car, they took both cars and I went to jail.I was still paying on a car that the state took.

I think you got screwed Ratdog.
Drivers go for it all the time. They just happen to be driving slow cars. Their gas pedals are too the mat. Their cars just are not fast enough to attract the same attention.......although they are in fact racing.

I was very surpized to find I had lost my car to the state, over something like that,I didn't know that law was there. The judge wasn't happy. He didn't care if I had went passed the posted speed limit. To him to many kids out there racing.and I was older and should have known better.....

That speed differential between cars and trailers is idiotic and very dangerous

The total picture of the differances in speed limits is the reason I wrote the governor---however the speed limit with a trailor is 55 as is for big trucks, RVs, etc.
I think the national limit for controlled access highways could be 75 or even higher.
But I also don't think someone should be going 30 over

WOW---just got a letter from the Acting Director or the Illinois State Police concerning my letter to the Gov.
Seems like area I mentioned lies in 3 different districts for the state police--
More on the letter later tonight

One of the biggest mistakes I see, being in car sales for 40 years is insurance reps. telling their clients - Oh your insurance will cover you if you rent a car and get into an accident. Let's see how many insurance agents will answer this thread and tell me I'm wrong: but NO THEY DON'T, just a very limited amount and insurance lawyers will find away around paying for much of anything. I have seen this over and over again .

My policy states that on a rented vehicle, I have the same coverage, limits and deductibles as my regular car.

Your "old 97 Chevy PU " was Governed by the tire rating, If Chevy put on a higher rated tires they would not have to govern the truck. My Ford Lightning pick up truck came with Z rated tires and it is not govern by anything but wind drag!
PS it's about 154MPH...DON'T ask how I know

A friend of mine told me about it so I had to try it. I thought that they did it because it was a 4x4. For me it was uncomfortable at that speed. Got a bit floaty.
I guess that is something that you can over ride in the computer if you had the tool to do it.

But then they would collect less revenue
It's not about safety, it's about votes and money.
