August 27 - Stagecoach Trail
Working on setting a ride to Galena for next weekend, August 27th or 28th or maybe both. Along the way we will stop at a winnery for sampling, maybe a late lunch, and later in the day we can race down Chestnut Mountains Tobagon Slid and ride the chair lift back to the top. This is about a 3 to 4 hour ride out on the back roads, quicker back if you travel the highway. Possible overnight stay if any interest, could run back Sunday thru Wisconsin or Iowa along the Mississippi.
Let me know if there is any interest in the trip and if an overnight stay is prefered or not. Obviously this is predicated on some nice weather for next weekend. I'll continue to work on the trip and keep an eye on the weather to see if this will be a go or not, but please let me know what you think.

Weather is looking Goooood for the weekend!! Starks Corners will be our starting point, seems like most of us know were it is, with plenty of parking to get set up. I am not planning to have breakfast there, just a quik cup of coffee and a roll, this way we can start the trip with out much delay. Plan on leaving Starks Corner by 9:30AM. I will send an email out on the route as well as have directions at our meeting place. Some of you may wish to meet up along the route insted of coming to Staks Corners. We'll keep the overnighter in mind and see how the trip progresses, if needed we can split off the trail and head back for home, making it a great day event or we can forge forward with an Overnight Stay and a Sunday morning return for a two day road trip. Please respond to my email or on this tread if you intent to ride or not.
Thanks Fred

Fred: Peg and I are in for the one-dayer on Saturday, we'll break off and head home when it seems like a good idea. Thanks for putting the trip together.

I did forget to show you one featured stoping point, wich is at the Galena Cellars Winery, located just north of Stagecoach Road on N. Ford Road just west of Scales Mound. see web site for more information http:// www.galenacellars.com/home.asp
So far we have 6 cars attending hope to see more!

We will not make this trip. The Cobra is in the final assembly stage (re-calibrated carbs) and I do not want to make this long of a trip the first time out. I hope to be on the road tonight and more tomorrow and Sunday, but only short trips for now.

The car is filthy ... still has track tires on ... got a full tank of gas ... and a new pair of cheap sunglasses. We are in for one day and ready to rock!

Looks like I'm in for Saturday, but I will also drive home at some point after the winery :-). Weather looks good (82 and partly cloudy)!

Fred,
Fantastic day for a cruise; pricture perfect weather, an ideal mix of country back roads, lots of twisty curves and great friends. I burned up two tanks of 93 octane while driving nearly three hundred miles. Lets do it again!!!
Thanks for putting this event together.

Fred: Great job!!! I only wish Peg and I coud have made the second day. Enjoyed the ride and all the attention we got - especially the lady that liked "#13" and the "Shelby Mustang - Cobra replica wanna-be". We got the wine home without spilling a drop, nailed a bird on the Stagecoach Trail back, and were able to hook up with Frank for part of the ride home.
Time to go out and scrape the bugs off the car. Where is Wolfie when you need him?
Thanks again.

We got home safely around 5:00 Sunday. That was absolutely the best run we ever made in the Cobras. The best scenery and roads to date. All of the cars ran flawlessly with no break downs. We could have used Musson on the trip as he has had run ins with motorcycle gangs before. We were out numbered 3-1 by a vicious leather cladded chain carrying gang of thugs on the ferryboat crossing the great Mississippi. Thank God that Sue and Mary were able to persuade them the spare the three brave men of the WCCC.
It was great Fred, can't wait to do it again.
