Area Cruise Nites for 2003

Hi all. I shot out a Word File of all the area cruise nites to everyone's e-mail. I'll put it up here as a text message:

This is the offical Windy City Cobra Club list of cruise nites in the Chicagoland area.

The events that WCCC members have attended and rated in the past are rated on a 1-4 Star (a star is *) system. Just because an event has no stars, doesn¡¦t mean its bad. It just means no one has been there yet¡KIf you go, please send in your comments.

The Double K Productions Shows and Rally Cruises are organized, well-attended events. All info is at www.doublekproductions.com and www.rallyinsurance.com.

Most of these events start in late May and run through September. As always, please call ahead if you are not sure that a particular cruise is still happening, as many of these events are from last year¡¦s list. Please send an e-mail if you find out any changes or additions.

This year, we are going to name one spot each week (or so) as a WCCC gathering point. Hopefully, this will give us all a chance to go to these shows, meet up, and hang out talkin cars.

MONDAYS

PROSPECT HEIGHTS -- 698 N. Milwaukee Ave, Prospect Heights/Palwaukee Plaza, Milwaukee and Willow - 6:30 to 9pm.


TUESDAYS

***PLAINFIELD -- Plainfield Cruise Nights on Main Street -- Downtown Plainfield, IL on Lockport Street (Old Alignment of Route 66) from 7-9p.m. June3rd ¡V Sept., 5-9PM. Organized by MainStreet Plainfield www.mainstreetplainfield.org. Very good with 200+ cars -- plus its on Route 66.

**CHICAGO ¡V Frosted Mug Cruise -- Cruise night every Tuesday night and Saturday night all year long. 11600 S Pulaski in Chicago IL. Exit Interstate 294, at Cicero Ave, North To 115th St. then, one mile east to Pulaski Rd. Info: Jim 708 371-3383, E-Mail, jmonaco@megsinet.net. Web site is www.thefrostedmug.com. I found this spot a little tight on space compared to suburban shows.

**VILLA PARK -- Strat's Drive-In on North Ave, just west of Route 83 in Villa Park. Every Tuesday evening starting April and thru October. Event is held in a large parking lot in the rear of Strat¡¦s. Good food, Strat himself is very personable. They usually have trophies and a DJ.

JOLIET -- Ace Drive-In - 1207 Plainfield Road (Route 30), Joliet, IL Starts at 6:30 p.m. - 815-726-7741

**ELGIN -- Steak N Shake, Elgin, 1st & 3rd Tuesday of every month, 6 - 9 pm, May through Oct. 290 S Randall Rd. www.doublekproductions.com. This is a great little show with music.

**WEST CHICAGO -- Steak N Shake, West Chicago, 2nd & 4th Tuesday each month. 6 - 9 pm, May through Oct. 320 W. North Ave. (North Ave & Rt. 59, next to Menard's) www.doublekproductions.com. This is a great little show with music.

WEDNESDAYS

****ELMHURST -- Cool Cars Under The Stars - Downtown and Main Street, Elmhurst, IL. This is only a few blocks south of North Avenue on York Road. Every week has a different featured marque that gets priority parking,, but the cruising scene overtakes the entire downtown area. Arrive early to get a good spot. May 21st ¡V Sept. 10th, typically runs from 6 PM until 10 PM.

LEMONT -- Lemont Legends - Main Street between Lemont Street and Stephen Street; Lemont, IL from 7-9p.m May 23rd to August 22 (A Rally Cruise - 800-801-1823). East of Lemont Road and West of Route 83, just south of I-55.

FRANKLIN PARK -- Strat's - 2906 N. Mannheim Road, Franklin Park, IL 847-455-3040. Starts at 7:00 PM

MUNDELEIN -- On The Road Classics are hosting a cruise night in Mundelein, on Main Street on the second Wed. of each month from May until September.

ELBURN -- Blackberry Inn - Route 47 @ Main Street (between I-88 & Route 38), Elburn, IL 630-365-2200.


THURSDAYS

****CRYSTAL LAKE -- Crystal Lake Cruises - Williams Street (South of Woodstock St. & the train station), Crystal Lake, IL. From 7-9p.m. Runs from May 31st through early August 30th (A Rally Cruise - 800-801-1823). Very Good, lots of cars.

**GENEVA -- Forever Cruisin' Geneva Cruise Nights, Thursdays in late June, July, August, 5-8 PM. Cars are on display in the parking lot behind the Courthouse at Fourth and James Streets. Car check-in begins at 5 pm. A weekly trophy will be awarded to the "Peoples Choice ¡V Best of Show." For more information, call the Geneva Chamber of Commerce at 630-232-6060. Good show with friendly people.

FRANKFORT -- Cruising' Frankfort Mainstreet Downtown Frankfort on Kansas St and Oak Street from 6:00-10:00 PM From June through August (A Rally Cruise - 800-801-1823)

GLEN ELLYN -- Glen Ellyn Cruise - Downtown on Main Street north of Crescent St and the train tracks 7:00-9:00 p.m.

BENSENVILLE -- Classic Car Cruise Nites - Bensenville Town Center, Bensenville, IL 630-860-1404. Starts at 6:00 p.m. Runs Mid May through late summer.

*JOLIET -- Joliet's Chicago Street Classic - Downtown on Chicago Street and Van Buren across from the Rialta Theater 7-9p.m. from May 31 thru August 30th (A Rally Cruise - 800-801-1823)

PLAINFIELD -- Railsplitter/Pioneer Lanes - Route 30 east of Route 59, Plainfield, IL. Starts at 6:00 p.m. Runs through September.

**AURORA -- Steak N Shake, Aurora, 1st & 3rd Thursday each month, 6 - 9 pm, May through Oct. 4333 Fox Valley Ctr. (@ Fox Valley Mall) www.doublekproductions.com. These are usually good shows, with music and trophies.


FRIDAYS

****ROLLING MEADOWS -- Rolling Meadows Cruise¡XKirchoff Road, not too far east of Route 53/290. Lots of classic cars, music, etc. Some local clubs attend en masse. Held in a large parking lot on the north side of Kirchoff. Always some Cobras and Ferraris there. 6 PM until 10 PM starting as soon as the weather gets decent, usually April or early May.

**DOWNERS GROVE - Main Street Downers Grove Classic Car Show ¡V May 23 through September 12 (excluding June 27 and July 4). www.downtowndownersgrove.com or call 630-725-0991.

BLOOMINGDALE ¡V The McDonald's at the NEC of Bloomingdale Rd. & Lake Street on Friday Nights Starting in April 12th, 2002.

BRIDGEVIEW -- Dukes Drive-In - 82nd and Harlem Ave., Bridgeview. Sometimes a good local scene, but street racers rule late at nite. Sometimes a tough, young racer crowd. Always intense.

GLENDALE HEIGHTS -- Donatos 50s Style Deli, 542 North Avenue (at Glen Ellyn Rd), Glendale Heights, IL 630-942-9177 May 5th Thru October

CHICAGO -- The Frosted Mug Drive In's Cruise Nights were rated by Hot Rod Magazine as one of the top ten Cruising spots in the Nation. Cruise night every Tuesday night and Saturday night all year long, No 90's or 80's allowed. Security on site. 11600 S Pulaski in Chicago IL. ***AURORA -- Swonys Drive In, 737 Hill Ave., Aurora.. (630-859-2877). Relive a bygone era with carhops serving road food at your car. This is a cute little place, right by Phillips Park Golf Course. Cruises every 2nd, 4th, and 5th Saturday of the month from May till October.
