1/4 mile times/mph
Has anyone run their cars at the strip (1/4 mile)? If so, what times/mph are you running. What's your vehicle type, engine setup, trans, and tires. Just curious.

Car is similar to yours, with a Performance Engineering 418.
Second gear launch, still trying to figure out how to do this without spinning the tires so badly.
If you're interested, the Windy City Cobra Club has a couple of events at Byron Dragstrip in the summer.

best was 12.0 at 119, SPF, stroked 392 Windsor, stock Goodyears GTII's. But it was a cool fall night, and i short shift to second,, leave the line just above idle, shift, and get hard on it.
But i usually run about 12.3 -12.5 at about 115, when warmer. Very traction limited, of course.

Has anybody tried the bfg drag radials? I wonder how much of a difference they would make? I haven't had my car to the track yet but I can't get any traction with the bfg t/a's 295/50/15 on the street.

even with lots of suspension work it spins the radials at will,,around the street racer clan here,,they say Mickey Thiompson makes the best street slick,,Tim

Can I assume that's 7 seconds in the 1/8 mile?

Looking at these replies, it's obvious that the street tires are a huge obstacle to dragstrip performance; it appears that one of these cars with 450 +/- HP should easily run in the 11's, maybe 10's with appropriate tires and good technique. It's certainly tempting to spend a few hundred bucks for a set of drag radials, add a line-lock and a shift light and see how low I can get. My guess is that that should be worth a second or so. On the other hand, what I DON'T want to do is start down the path to turning this car into a dragster. When I get my car into the 11's, I'll be happy. Hal, I like your idea of coming out easy, then getting on it, although I still should be able to start in 2nd and save the 1-2 shift time. I was able to run the auto-X at Spring Fling in 2nd and felt the car had plenty of torque to take off without hesitating. So maybe come out easy in 2nd, then nail it is the key to the 11's. Too late now to find out, though; we have snow on the ground here in northern IL.

Drag racing your car puts undue stress on your vehicle and may lead to socially unacceptable behavior. I would not sugest you engage in such activities

Lowell,
Did you go to Byron with the rest of the club this summer? I plan on going this year. I just got my car in October this year.
I'm also thinking of purchasing a set of drag radials in the spring, I'm just curious how they will affect the cornering of the car?

Chris,
I participated in two WCCC events at Byron Dragstrip last summer and fall. It would be great to have more folks show up next summer. I think we had maybe 8 or so cars at the better-attended of the two events, so the more, the merrier! If I were going to run drag radials, I think I'd put them on a spare set of wheels and just use them for drag racing.

Hey Chris
Erik has just got a set of those the end of this year .
Last I talked to him about it ,
He said that it made a big difference
I was thinking of going with Nitto's .
We will see next year everybody should have their cars tweaked pretty well.

Took the Cobra to the strip for the first time in November. Ran 12.17 @ 111, 11.85@116 and 11.84@115. Thats on street tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE730's). Drove in and ran without even opening the hood. Car has 3.08 rear gears and only 362 dyno'd RWHP. You guys with the big HP should be running 10's on street rubber no problems.

MJN,
Are you getting pretty good traction with those tires? What size wheels are you running. Any 60ft. times? What trans do you have. Impressive numbers on street tires.
Has anyone ever tried a slick?
