Volo Toys for Tots Cruise - October 17th

Toys for tots was a success. A little chilly in the morning but turned out to be a great day for a high speed drive from Downers Grove to Volo. We dropped off a couple of trunk loads of toys (thanks to Sid), looked at a bunch of cars and hit the streets for a back road jaunt. I only stuck around for the first quarter of the back road drive (I had chores waiting at home ) but it sure was fun. Lets here about the other 3/4 of the ride.

I vote for more back road driving next season.

Great fun was had by all of the pilots and passengers.

The remaining 3/4 were even better. No traffic, great views, nice colors in the trees. May be my last ride of the season, but it was worth it. Found a few more things to work on this winter. Wolf's playground was fun!!

Well I sure did have a good time today. The weather was beautiful this morning at 8:00 am, about 38 degrees perfect for a cruise. It gave me a chance to try my heater @ 80 mph on 355 to Downers grove. The long johns and stocking cap worked wonders. Sid, Chris and I met up with Tom in Downers Grove. Had a couple of donuts and a cup of coffe and met some of the hotrod dudes and dudetts. They were very friendly and receptive to us crazy "Cobra" dudes. We had to go fuel up as they were pulling out for Volo, we told them not to worry that we would catch up with them. As we were heading for the gas station Dave and Michelle hooked up with us and then there were four Cobras! We did catch the hot rodders right @ Volo. After Volo Dave took us down some nice country roads where I had the opportunity to wear down some of my excess in my clutch plates and the excess rubber on my tires. We rode through Bull Valley into Woodstock, that was absolutely beautiful. We stopped in Huntley for lunch and met up with some of Dave and Michelle's friends who joined us in the last leg of our trip through the hairpin turn backroads of Huntley into Hampshire. We split up in Hampshire and Tom gave Sid and myself an escort back to Rt. 59. Lucky Tom had another hour of driving to get back home! That bothered me so much that I made Sid get out of my car at my house and I drove around for another hour by myself.
Hopefully this beautiful weather will stay with us till Thanksgiving day so I can still get a few more miles on my car this year.
