Default What size rear-end gears?

Hey guys,
I am going to Florida tommorow to pick up my new BDR. I currently am using the stock 3.1 BMW rear end gear that Backdraft offers. I have a 392 stroker with a TKO-500. What size gears are you all using and what do you reccomend?

Hey DLG, depending on what time you are leaving tomorrow, you may want to give Jerry or Corey at Clayton Speed Shop in Elburn a call. Besides building racing engines, they also build roadsters and hot rods and would probably be able to help you. Their phone # 630-365-6737.

I have a 9 inch ford w/TKO600 with short 5th (.82 or .84 don't remember) and run 3.25. Engine does 580hp/590tq at crank. Seems to be a good combo. I run about 2500 at 70. I thought about running the long 5th (which is wat I changes from) but did not want the big gap from 4th to 5th. Play with this gear calculator - I found it helpful. www.secondstrike.com/technical/gearcalc.asp

I have a 3.73 or thereabouts. It's fine, gives nice acceleration etc.
If I could pick whatever I wanted I would probably go a little lower (higer) to something closer to a 3.50. You also will have alot more motor than I have, so you can get away with 3.50 easily; even something around 3.25 would work nicely. It really depends on how much acceleration vs crusing you want to do.

Thanks everyone for your input. I come to find out that the gear size is a 3.43 not a 3.10. The older models use the 3.10. I like the 3.43 I still have a useable first gear and on the highway i am at 2000 rpm's at 70 mph
