Low Pressure Laps @ AUTOBAHN
If you're interested in "touring" laps on the track at the Autobahn...
(No helmet or "legal" roll bar needed.)
CAROC - Chicago Alpha Romeo Owners Club has a spring event May 6th & 7th.
They're looking for volunteer corner workers. They'll let you do the Touring session on the track in your car in exchange. OR you can skip volunteering and pay the $50 fee. I don't know their speed limit. It's not a full speed session. BUT you don't need a "legal" roll bar or a helmet.
It's a fun way to get on the track and practice your "line" around the track.

Dave, I called Sandy GaNun (Sandy is a man) from AROC and asked what the "touring" session is about. The speed is around 70mph, but he emphasized that "there won't be anyone using a radar gun". Also, passing is allowed on the track except in the turns.
Like you said, the fee is $50.00 or FREE if you work a corner, and you DO NOT have to pay the $30. Assoc. membership fee for the touring session.

Is anyone signed up... or going?
I'll be there rain or shine Saturday morning at about 7am for tech. Then I'll be on the track on and off all day, all weekend.
Is anyone going for the touring? to volunteer? to watch?
I'll gladly HELP someone organize a group but I assume you'll be heading down seperately from me... doing a snake n' eggs and heading down a bit later...
I'll be in my green "non-Cobra" car. I was hoping / "dreaming" about finding a way to bring both cars down and using the Cobra during the touring sessions but now the Cobra's on the injured reserve list.

I got my CAROC information today. Dave, I should be there around 7am Sat.
I am going for the touring. It will be my first attempt at a venue like this.
C - 708.764.6668
Green dully w/blue Cobra on open trailer.
How strick is the Tech? I'm 6'2", my head is above the rollbar!
Any others going???????????
I forgot, there are for Show not Go!
If you guys don't stay out to late tonight showing your cars, get up early Sat. and cheer on some people that just might break there cars......again.

Glen,
Cool!
I'll be there 'round 7am as well. I'm not sure if you need to be there that early or not if you're doing the touring only but it's not a bad idea. (You'd have to check with the CAROC folks on that.) There'll be plenty going on though.
To my understanding roll bar height shouldn't be an issue for touring. (It probably wouldn't pass tech for full speed lapping. But you're not signed up for that...)
It looks like ONE LAP OF AMERICA will be there as well. I assume using the other track (there are two.) It'll be the first or second stop of this year's event. (It's starting today at Tire Rack.)
As you probably are aware. My Cobra roll bar is too low as well. I'll be using my "other" car... a dark green (sometimes looks black) 1995... dare I say... CORVETTE.
See ya there! The weather should be great. Lot's of interesting people to meet. Lot's cool cars to see... in action. It'll be a great day.
