Cheez Chris...can't a guy go for a drive when the weather is great? Besides, I was on my way to the big dogs place to help with Sid's dilemma and I got a little turned around.

Kudos to Forte for taking an order at almost 10pm his time last night.

I'll leave the rest of the kudos to Sid.

Busted!

Just a little carb work for me, but I did see a nice shiny blue cobra with a very short shifter that looked a little light in the mid-section.

No power adder stuff for me...that's for people that can't make real horsepower. oops

Sid is willing, but his car is complaining...very loudly. Big dog and the professor to the rescue...again.

Hey Jeff,

The definition of (real) horsepower according to google:

"How do you define horsepower? Ask a car enthusiast and most of the time you'll get a blank look, a shrug of the shoulders and maybe a guess along the lines of "What a horse can do!".

Horsepower is defined as work done over time. The exact definition of one horsepower is 33,000 lb.ft./minute. Put another way, if you were to lift 33,000 pounds one foot over a period of one minute, you would have been working at the rate of one horsepower. In this case, you'd have expended one horsepower-minute of energy.
Even more interesting is how the definition came to be. It was originated by James Watt, (1736-1819) the inventor of the steam engine and the man whose name has been immortalized by the definition of Watt as a unit of power. The next time you complain about the landlord using only 20 watt light bulbs in the hall, you are honoring the same man.

To help sell his steam engines, Watt needed a way of rating their capabilities. The engines were replacing horses, the usual source of industrial power of the day. The typical horse, attached to a mill that grinded corn or cut wood, walked a 24 foot diameter (about 75.4 feet circumference) circle. Watt calculated that the horse pulled with a force of 180 pounds, although how he came up with the figure is not known. Watt observed that a horse typically made 144 trips around the circle in an hour, or about 2.4 per minute. This meant that the horse traveled at a speed of 180.96 feet per minute. Watt rounded off the speed to 181 feet per minute and multiplied that by the 180 pounds of force the horse pulled (181 x 180) and came up with 32,580 ft.-lbs./minute. That was rounded off to 33,000 ft.-lbs./minute, the figure we use today.

Put into perspective, a healthy human can sustain about 0.1 horsepower. Most observers familiar with horses and their capabilities estimate that Watt was a bit optimistic; few horses could maintain that effort for long." (end quote)

Horsepower however, does not always determine who
will be at the finish line first, in the shortest amount of time.

I'll be there, with my little whimpy 6... hopefully I can get at least in the 13's this time.

Because it sure does not sound like the man that just googled that disertation on "real" horsepower. Thanks Arcenio, that really was interesting.

Anyway, I wonder what I could do with one of those gadgets.

Careful Jeff, you're dealing with a guy who hasn't been in the suburbs very long. If you aggravate him, he'll go all "Chicago" on ya. Also you should consider that his car has on numerous occasions traveled the length of the dragstrip, ending up first, unless matched up with a red or white car.

Funny I've never lost to a blue car?
I've only lost to one red car once.
Once lost to a green car,
I've lost one to a white car once,
raced against John Spina.
(But I would have been dissapointed if the
master Guru of all electrical on GN V6's could be
trumped be a meager newcomer.)

I would throw some of this junk Spina's way but he is never around and I also promised C.D. I would not tell anyone about the NOS.

Yes, I am looking forward to the challenge of getting into the arena with the Matador. I think If he does win by a nose he can say that he took down Chris also, because I am racing him first.

You drive a race bred car and you won't race it, even a little. By most accounts you have an aggressive setup. You gotta expect a few shots for that.

Hmmmmm....interesting choice of words.

But hey Snoopy,I NEVER mentioned anyone by name.

Besides, I would suspect that by the temperature being less than 60 degrees (nice for the turbos)
it would keep the spectators / cheering committee down to a minimum.
Besides you'll probably only need to run three times, so see, your right on the money.

I get to race Jeffko on saturday, I'm excited.

Arcenio, You're right, it doesn't take a lot of Horsepower to win at the strip........

It just takes some driving skill.. I've only got a 100 hp less than most and I can still hang with the big boys................

Come on Arcy, lets go out and represent the little dog group. Lets group together against those high hp vettes' and cobras. I'll stand tall and proud with you going down the old 1/4 mile. At least we'll be representing not like the OTHERS>>>>>>>
