Sunday was a blast --- did not know what to expect from the snake, first time on the track(won't be the last!!!) and I have not taken a car the track since the 80's-----very happy overall just need to be more consistant
street tires 275/60R15 BFG TA
1st run 11.827@106.74mph
2nd run 13.237@111.20mph
3rd run 15.683@54.14mph
4th run 12.127@111.62mph
5th run 11.514@118.45mph
6th run 11.649@109.89mph
1st OK took easy-gain confidence(car & self)--2nd smoked tires off line and in second --3rd hooked up good and clutch sliped in second and third burnt clutch smoke came from under car coasted to end -- 4th see what happens all seems OK just make sure clutch is grabbing before punching gas-- 5th felt good, tires sliped in third -- 6th felt good, tires sliped in third earlier than last run
Things for next time carb tuning and be consistant, maybe drag radials

Alsnake,
The mid 11 second times are interesting from the mph stand point. At 11.5 I would have expected to see well into the 120's (123-125) with a big block. The mph trap speed sounds more indicative of a small block, when considering the ET vs Trap Speed. A small block typically starts to 'run out of steam' toward the end, while a big block keeps pulling strong. I wonder if that big 514 could use some better 'tuning' for more top end pull? Perhaps it's leaning out a bit?
What rpm were you shifting at with your best run? Also with the T/A's I would expect your 0-60 ft time to be in the 2 second range as they are SO hard 'hook up'. If so, the numbers show some AWESOME power making up for 'lost time' outta the hole, while the lower mph leaves me scratching my head.
Could be a gear ratio effect, SO many variables with drag racing.
Good stuff...

Hmmm, assuming there is enough 'fire' from the plug to light off the mixture I'd certainly rather run rich than lean. My 'gutt' tells me rich would not have as big an impact on trap speed\power at top end as lean would. Unless it's super rich to the point of having a big impact on h.p., I would think the extra fuel is simply 'blown out' the exhaust.

All in all I am pleased to see an 11.9 on my first trip to the strip!!! For all the trash talk, all seems to normal now.

Excailber,
my best run I shifted into fourth gear the rest were at rev limit in third at end of 1/4 --checked gear calculator and 6000 rpm in third is 112 mph -- need to shift in to fourth ---1/8 mi speeds 93.7-96.3 mph, 60' times 1.77-1.98 and 2.23 when spun tires off line ----- can't wait to go again I know I can do better

The road racing course, the roundy round dirt track and the drag strip were all CLOSED as of last month.
There is currently NO place to race ANYTHING on the Island of Ohau.

Ernie, great thread on your engine build. I hope it rains this weekend so I can kick back and read thru it.
