A Dragonsnake Auction and S&E
Good Morning Fellow Snake Charmers!
Several members have shown an interest in visiting the Mecum Auction in Belvidere to witness the auction of one of only two Dragonsnakes that were Shelby factory raced in the 60s. (there were only a total of 6 Dragonsnakes built by the factory) There are also two other original Cobras on the auction block and all three are scheduled to be bid on at a starting time of 11:45 AM this Saturday.
There are a few recommended restaurants near by that could accommodate us, I will make a run up there today to check it out. We'll have to work out a convoy meeting place and I'll take all recommendations.
The directions to Belvidere are I-90 to the Genoa / Belvidere exits which is approximately 35 minutes west of the Elgin toll booth. If you hit the Belvidere toll booth, you've gone too far.
I'd like a show of hands to see who's interested in seeing a Cobra being sold possibly in the 2 million dollar range.

Ralph,
The S & E sounds like a great ride out in the country, deal me in. I'm also interested in the Mecum Dragonsnake auction, but wiht a potential two million dollar sales price, I'll leave my check book home.

You may want to consider not driving your Cobra's to the auction. I have heard that from time to time cars disappear from these auction parking lots.

Yes, Blas had mentioned that to me last night but if we have more than a half dozen Cobras going and all parked together, I figure each member can take turns every 15 minutes as lookout by the cars. I don't believe that should be a problem, I probably wouldn't go if I couldn't drive the Red Snake.

Red Snake
This has absolutely nothing to do with this thread but,
Jeff, ever since you put that cowboy logo on as your avatar,
You've been asking some really strange questions.
You're not trying to tell us you've gone over to the Broke back cowboy thing?
Gees I sure hope not..........

More Info
OK, had lunch at Grandma's Restaurant and visited the Fairgrounds in Belvidere. Talked to the owner of the restaurant and he said there is no problem accommodating a dozen or more people at around 9 am on Saturday. ( There maybe the next time, after we resurface his parking lot Saturday! )
From our old meeting point, the Cracker Barrel restaurant in Elgin ( now permanently closed as you remember ), drove west on I-90 for 30 miles and exited at the Genoa / Belvidere Rd off ramp.
To get to Grandma's Restaurant : Once you get off the ramp turn Right at Genoa / Belvidere Rd., counting that traffic light, at the 3rd light turn Left at Rt. 20, and at the 3rd light again make another left and Grandma's will be in front of you.
To get to the Fairgrounds without going to the restaurant: After you get off of the I-90 exit you drive straight across Rt. 20 for about 4 miles and the fairgrounds will be on the right side, you cannot miss them, there are lots and lots of white tents already set up.
To caravan, we can meet at the now defunct Cracker Barrel parking lot, say at 8:00 or 8:30 AM and jump on I-90 West. If someone lives west of there, we could meet at the restaurant or anyplace else you suggest.

So far it looks like a Cancellation!
OK, looks like the Dragonsnake Auction and S&E events have been scrapped!!!
Frank's wife found the 4 million bucks in his back pockets while doing the laundry and she is not a happy camper. For years she thought Frank had the cutest a$$ and now after all these years she found out it was only money!
Anyway, if there is anyone that wants to get together for any type of cruising this long weekend, please speak up here or send an e-mail to everybody.
Ralph
