September 16 - Byron Dragway - Reminder (Reprint)
Just a reminder - Is there a plan yet?
"....On Sept. 16th, some of my "Cobra" associates are going to Byron Dragway & participate in the "test & tune" runs. We'll be there early & among the first to run @ 10:00 AM. The Fox Valley Corvette Club, who wimped out in May, are rumored to show up & the really daring among them might perchance line up opposite one or two of our cars. Most likely, they'll show up to watch again. I think they're skeeered of snakes.
Seriously, it's a great time to see how your car runs, they are pretty informal at Byron & you can run 1/4 miles on a straight, level course with no driveways or cops. Great fun."

Mike,
Good job with the sabotage to Chris’s blue car.
But I thought you said you fixed it so the intake gasket would blow AT the Byron drag strip?
Something about just a little bit more humiliating having it blow and seeing it in your rear view mirror smoking…easier to see the smoke when it so far back on the track.

No,
We may have major problems. I think we have to pull the passenger side head and see. Replaced the intake gasket multiple times. Still no good.
1 blue car down for the count.
Sad day in my life.
Does anybody want to buy a house?

Jeff:
Symptoms- enough coolant getting into the #4 cylinder to cause hydraulic lock with the engine just sitting there for 30 mins. Any ideas??

There are only a few ways that can happen and they all involve removing the head. Cracked cylinder or head, warped head or blown gasket.
I would get the head off and take it to a machine shop for checking warpage and/or have it magna fluxed. However, since the cylinder gets enough water in 30 minutes to stop the stroke you could try some dye penetrant and quite possibly find the crack yourselves.
Let's hope it is the head so Chris can get the new ones he has been wanting. If it is not the head, well let's just say that Chris will be on his knees begging for an engine instead of curtains. On the other hand you could pull the plug and still have one more cylinder than Arcy. Actually I think I recall Chris claiming 370hp so running on seven will still leave him with 324hp and that's enough to race Sid and Ralphie.

Mike and Chris,
Did the car ever get badly overheated? Does it have aluminunum heads? A whole cylinder full in 30 minutes is a big leak and should be pretty obvious when you get the head off.
Jeff has a good point, though. You still have more cylinders than Arcenio, and John, too, for that matter, so what's the prob? Just pull that plug and tell him all the extra noise is a new supercharger induction system. Maybe you'll scare him off...
Or...here's an idea: No, I don't want to buy a house but I'd be willing to trade you my car for the house. My car has beaten Arcenio's. Then you could just show up at Byron, collect your trophy and go...well...somewhere and you wouldn't have to fool around with your motor.
Anyway, if you're going to rip into it this weekend and want some help, give me a call or email.
