Open Invitation to a Tailgate Party at Brian Redman Vintage Races July 21
Open Invitation to a Tailgate Party at Brian Redman Vintage Races July 21
We would like to invite everyone (not just the Chicago area owners but everyone) to attend a tailgate party at the Bryon Redman International Challenge aka the ‘BRIC’. The races take place in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin at the Road America Race track
This innovation is for all current and former Cobra owners, builders, wanna-bees, planners and just plain interested parties. Everyone is invited to stop by any time during the day. We plan to watch the races, exchange stories, meet old friends and make new ones. We would certainly expect some Wisconsin representation; we would hope for people for Indiana & Minnesota; after that, who knows how far someone might travel from a free meal. No matter where you may be coming from, you will be more than welcome.
The tailgate party will take place all day on Saturday July 21st. We will start by 9:00am for those looking for breakfast; we will continue during the mid-day hours serving lunch; and will certainly be around throughout the afternoon for anyone that wants a late lunch, a snack or just a cold drink.
We will determine the exact location with-in the track area where we will set–up or party in the next few days. If anyone in has a favorite location and wants to weigh-in on this topic please let us know.
For those unfamiliar with Road America, this is the link to the track map: http://www.roadamerica.com/images/maps/ra_map_2006.pdf
For more information visit the Road America web site: http://www.roadamerica.com/
Or the Brian Redman/ Kohler Web site: http://www.roadamerica.com/races_bric.htm
We only ask for an RSVP if you plan on attending so we judge how much food & drink to secure. A simple post to this cite would be appreciated.

Bob
There are two locations that are getting the most votes:
1. Between turn 3 and 3A. This is a shaded spot that is near the entrance gate and 'fairly' close to the Paddock area. There would be a larger number of people at this area but still should have adequate parking.
2. At turn 5 - This is a very open area with lots of room and plenty of parking. It has a great view of the track and is a perfect spot from which to watch the races. However, this is also a very open area with lots of sunshine. Depending on the weather it can be down right brutal.
We will tally the votes this weekend and post a final location

Will Look for you guys
Guys,
We are traveling from Columbus Ohio for the event and will look for you guys. I'll keep track of where you plan on setting up. We attended last year for the 40th Can-Am reunion and had a great time. I'll keep checking for the 2 of us.
See you there.

Rich,
I won't have any reliable computer access for the next week and a half or so, but I'm planning to be at the BRIC on the 21st and will probably have my friend, Sandy (Ken) with me. If it's not raining, we'll bring the Cobra; also perhaps his MGTC. We're looking forward to seeing eveerybody again. I'll check here or email for your location or give someone a call when we get to the track.
Thanks,
Lowell

Larry,
We look forward to seeing you.
Many of us are just back from London Cobra Show - just outside of Columbus; some are even veterans of the Mid-Ohio Track. We had a great time visiting your part of the County: I hope you have just as much fun at the BRIC.
Some of us will be at Elk Hart by Friday morning - When do you plan to arrive?

I will be there again (we all had a great time last year!).
The spot by turn 5 was nice with great viewing, but If it is at all rainy it becomes a mud pit that is surprisingly hard to get out of even with 4wd.
It rained Sunday for the AMA motorcycle race, and the entertainment we got watching people trying to get out of that area was quite comical (only because I hadn't parked there).
I am not saying I wouldn't set up there, but if it is wet, park at the top of the hill by turn 6.

Lowell,
I would love to see your friend's MGTC...I’m a HUGE MGTC fan and it's one of my favorite all time cars. (Love those wire wheels with skinny tires, clam shell fenders, etc.) Hopefully the BRIC weekend will be rain free and your friend can drive it to the event.

Rich, I plan on making it this year. I will bring a canopy. Is this an overnighter at the grounds?

Hi Chuck,
I did the Road American track tour several years ago when I owned a 1997 Black Mustang Cobra and it was a blast!!! You'll be driving two laps behind a pace car at 60MPH...but after the second lap the pace car pulled into the pits and it was "balls to the wall" for several additional laps. I had a great time at triple digit speed down the Moraine Sweep before slamming hard on the brakes for turn 5!! (Cheated death again.) Then up the hill, sliding thru the gears, under the Toyota Bridge etc., etc.
I strongly suggest touring Road America just to see if you "run out of car before running out of nerve." It's really a great experience but be wary of slower drivers!!

Gee Frank what have you been doing lately?
We haven't seen you around as often.
With quotes like that??? Maybe you should take a little time off

Okay the votes are in. They have been tabulated, certified and counted in the best Chicago tradition. The hands down winner………drum roll please……… it’s Turn 5.
This is the same spot as last year. It offers a great view of the races.
We will set up canopies on Friday afternoon to guarantee an excellent view of the track.
Several of us will be staying over night on Friday and plan to view the cars in down town ElkHart. Jeff, if you want to stay on the grounds I suggest you contact Ralph. He will be camping over night again this year
I am staying at the La Quinta in Sheboygan; which is less than ˝ hour from the track. If you want to make reservation I suggest you call the motel directly 920-457-2321 – the online reservation systems erroneously say they are full.

Chuck, You can come in any enterance and make it over to turn 5, but the most direct route is to enter gate 4 off of Hwy J (near turn 3).

Hmmm, In the best Chicago tradition of vote counting, I take it Ken Miles and Dick Smith voted for turn 5 ???
