Well finally am having one of my wishes coming true!

My very own don't have to share with the daily drivers Toy box garage!
Yep, 22' wide 30 ft deep

It's been challenging , first working on the local officials here gettting permits to build. O.K. shmoozed them enough.
Now getting the foundation poured, letting it cure, walls,roof siding and doors.
Ok, starting to look like something now!
Neighbor says it looks like a barn! aghh I think he's just jealous.

This basic one bulb electric has to go. Have to have at least four lines.
I'm still not sure of the lighting, I think mostly flourescent with a few incondesent for good coverage.
Oh yeah a gas line for some heat too.

Epoxied the floor last weekend, WOW looks great! THANKS TO Joe Anitra's tip!
Used an industrial epoxy light tan with added flecks, and clear coat!
They use this stuff at one of the local Chevy / Hummer high volume dealers.
They have hundreds of cars going in and out every week.
Should last me dang near forever.

Insulating the walls, Not sure if I should go with dry wall or alminium covered celotex.....hmmmm

Now the lift! how about a Bend Pak 9000.
Hey if it's good enough for Jay Leno it's good for me!
American made available parts, been in bus. for over 35 yrs.
Yeah I think that's it for right now.

Make sure that whatever wall treatment is used that it is white and add tons of fluorescent lights
Big window fan (or AC) and heater
Refrigerator
Automatic door opener so you do not have to get out of the Cobra when you get back from a ride
Air compressor

I'm a big fan of a small section of peg board. It ALWAYS comes in handy! Garage looks great! Floor looks awesome!

I used 4x8 sheets of wainscoting on all the walls over the drywall.. I takes the brunt of the the jack handles and anything else that may damage your drywall. Fluorescents are the way to go just make sure you use enough or you can add more if needed. I also ran copper pipe for a compressor to feed a couple of hose reels. It keeps the hose off of the floor and away from the cars when planned out. Never enough peg board even with the 9' span of my work bench. For the work bench top I used two layers of plywood for the top and covered it with galvanized sheets of metal ala home depo. The edge I finished with L shaped steel bar,also great for banging. It's only a 1 1/2 car garage but I was able to build my Cobra in it. Unfortunatly the city would not let me expand it so I was stuck with making the best of it. I took out the ceiling so that I could put a lift in.

That is very well done. Very nice indeed. I think you have done a great job so far – you should be proud

You might want to consider a separate electric service box.
You cannot have too much light.
On the ceiling I have:
1. 4 rows of 4 tube fluorescents
2. 16 - 250 watt halogens (this really gets it warm in the winter)
at the top of the walls:
3. Incandescent every 4 feet.
It still could be more—I still need a flashlight sometimes and my area is smaller than yours.
(You might want to consider where you work benches and tools will go before you decide on a final lighting layout)

Same hold true with outlets - every 4 feet at a minimum.

The A/C is a nice touch. Your ceiling are high enough you might want to consider ceiling fans.

I did not use dry wall – I used that fiberboard product that is gloss white on one side. I do not believe I will ever need to paint it. It reflects light well and it will not get damaged if something hits it.

Let me know if you need help assembling the lift.

Lookin good! You didn't mention the ceiling height but if you are using a lift it's probably 12" right? If so then when you put up the sheetrock in 4"x8" sections then you can use 4"x8" sections of pegboard in the center around the whole interior. In this pic you can see how the pegboard was sandwiched between the upper and lower levels of sheetrock;

This was taken shortly after I put my lift in and I have'nt run out of pegboard space in 2 years or so! I second the kegorator by the way. LOL Have fun!

Chris, I think that's more than a start...looks like a great place to um...sit in your car...uh...when you're...well, you know...not driving it...

I put in 4 incandescent flood lights on one switch-one in each corner-for times when I just want to run in and grab something and don't want to turn on the fluorescents. I used 24 4 foot 2 tube fluorescent fixtures in 4 rows of 6 fixtures in my 30 x 40 garage with a 10' ceiling, switched in 3 groups. I don't think I need any more light but I wouldn't want any less, either. Your local electrical supply house will have a computer program to figure out how many fixtures you need.

I set all my electrical outlets at about 48" off the floor and put 220V outlets near each overhead door and a couple along the long wall so I can plug in a welder or plasma cutter anywhere in the shop and reach out the doors. I also framed in and wired boxes for air conditioner units but haven't installed them yet.

For a great heater, check out a Hot Dawg. I used one of their medium size units, about 110,000 BTU's, I think, and I love it. It's up in a corner, out of the way, and heats the garage up fast. I did put heating coils in the floor but haven't ever bothered to hook up a floor heat system because the Hot Dawg works so well. I have ceiling fans in the other three corners

I just used OSB board for the walls and plan to paint it white...someday... It's strong enough to hang stuff on and won't dent unless I really whack it with something.

Definitely you need an air compressor and 100' or so of air hose on those handy reel things in several different locations, preferably near the overhead doors. Parts washer, bead blaster, maybe a powdercoat booth and an oven, a lift, door openers, pull-down work lights, fridge, girlie pictures, shelves, racks, etc., etc...

Water would be really nice. I put pipe in the floor for water and a drain but haven't trenched in the service from the house yet. When I do, I'll also bury phone wires and co-ax lines so I can put in a phone and a computer if I want.

Yes I did the floor myself.
Industrial Epoxy Base color, Flecks, Top coat clear.
What you need is the garage floor squeaky clean (no grease),
Muratic acid to etch the floor and give the epoxy somewhere good to grab on
clean floor again, let dry two days or more.
Apply base coat in sections, when wet apply the Flecks.
Wait 24 hours apply top coat.
Wait 48 hours before moving cars into garage.

The whole shebang was around $250.00 for everything including
epoxy, rollers, pan liners, tape and a couple of cheap brushes.
Again Thank yous go to Joe Anitra he's the one who told me wher to get this stuff.
And it's great!
