New Fuel Tank
I am in the process of putting in a new fuel tank in my CCX Cobra. It was made for me by Mickmate in New Hampshire. He came highly recommended by a bunch of New England Cobra members I know. I was so impressed that I wanted to give the WCCC members who were interested in custom fabrication a heads up. His tank is almost too pretty to put under the car. As an example of his talents, he is currently building himself a Cobra in Which every single part he is hand fabricating! You can find him on Club Cobra in the Contemporary Classic Forums-Club Cobra.
Julie and I really enjoyed meeting everyone at the Holiday party. Thanks to John & Sue!

Jeff,
Great to hear you are at the picture stages......add to your gallery!
Nick has fabricated a pedal box, CSX style, for me in my Contemporary, it is a work of art! It will add a bit of OEM look for me and upgraded braking. I too want a tank, time may get too close as Spring approaches. Aluminum is the way to go, can't wait to see yours.
Pics pics pics.........

tank
The photos of my new tank can be seen on my member gallery. I can't seem to make the resolution low enough to attach here.

New Fuel Tank
Hi Jeff,
I took a look at the pictures and it looks like they did a very nice job on your tank. Is there a number that Mickmate can be reached at? I'm looking to replace the stock 15 gallon mustang tank in my LA Exotics with something a bit bigger.

Hey Reed,
Click on the members list on this site at the top of the page. Click on 'M' and go to page 14. You'll find him there. Tell him Jeff Nelson from Chicago highly recommended him. He is very reasonable from a price perspective, too. As far as capacity, my new tank should be about 20 gallons. Not exactly sure as I have not finished the install yet.

Jeff Gagnon,
I don't know if I'll recognize that CCX of yours. I only wish you guys were a lot closer so we could upgrade our rides together. I am the one and only CCX owner in the Windy City Cobra Club. Thanks to you and Dave for getting me hooked! I couldn't be more happy with my car.

For those in the Chicago area---check out RockValleyAntiqueAutoParts in Stillman Valley-they have patterns for many cars including Cobras---its an easy drive out there to see what they have------tanks are baffled, pumps, guage senders,etc---the only tanks I build are if its for something they don't do

Hey Jeff N, glad to see that thing going in there. That is baffled, vented and set up with a sender, fill tube and 6AN fuel pickup fittings, a drain plug and tank mounting straps. I've also done them with main and reserve pick ups for the guys that run fuel pressure instead of level gauges. They are all customized to the application and preferences. Jeff G we'll get to yours when we have these other neat projects done. Reed you can PM me here.

Mickmate, sounds like you should have made a couple more tanks for Contemporarys. If interested in doing another one, send me an email. It looks really good, pretty much what I was looking for, ie aluminum, baffled, vented, etc. I was brainstorming and thought about using two pickup points, one for mechanical pump, one for electric. I would need a sender compatible w/ a Smiths gauge. What are the measurements? Capacity? Best I can tell, the max size for the top on mine would be 23-24" long and 36" wide (any wider may interfere with the Watts).

mickmate, do you make the 42 gallon tank similar to the optional tanks available from Kirkham or Shelby?

I've made them for SC style (sloping trunk floor) Shelby's and Kirkhams but not the 42 gallon ones yet with the wings on the sides. What do you have now John?

It's called an Exact. It's a very accurate carbon fibre "re-creation". The tank is 18 gal. so the range is limited with a big block.

Another new tank from Mickmate
Well, I just received my new custom 31 gallon fuel tank for my LA Exotics. It's another one of Mickmate's (A.K.A. Nick Acton) masterpeices. Photos can be seen on my member's gallery.
Cheers,
Reed
