Default Might have to throw some $$$ at it

Well I guess I need to check my options. With winter being as bad as it has been and being overly busy (and that's not letting up in the foreseeable future) with work. I'm thinking about seeing if I can find a shop or someone I can pay to get some of the build done. I really want to be driving this thing come late May or June.

The engine is done. The body is down at Motorsport Collision getting pre-paint work done. I can get the the frame on wheels and rolling by the end of April. Here's what I'm looking to farm out...

1) get the electrical done
2) get the tranny mated up to the engine
3) get the steering column and linkage done.
4) get the body fitted and mounted to the chassis

Anybody have any recommendations/suggestions? If I can find a shop, then we could sit down and flush out the details and cost.

Thanks,

Ed

Mine is currently at Gess Motorsport in Crete ILL, near the Ind boarder getting some work done. Good guy. WCCC is planning an outing to his shop on April 19, see the thread on this site. He has a web site, hope the following link works.

Good luck.

Hmmm,

Sounds like a couple of days of WCCC events right here close to home.

What do you say guys? Can we help a guy in need out? Sounds like he wants to go cruising this summer.

Marty (electrical)
Tranny mated to engine (any one of us can help with this one, easy )
Steering column and linkage, body mounting (who has a CR? Marty, Fred, anyone else?)

Sounds like a couple of spring early morning events. Shall we bring the rumble to Algonquin, I know you perverts know where that is.

It's the place in those e-mails.

Thanks Chris for trying to rally support (for a new blue car )

But the big problem I'm having is a dirty 4 letter word called w-o-r-k. I've been bouncing between Chicago and NJ a lot and even weekend work trips, so I think my best plan of attack is to find a shop and drop a rolling chassis off and let them work on my issues. Hopefully by June the work trips tapper off and there will be time for driving and I'm sure there will be some tweaking to do and help from the club at that time would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Ed

Engine and radiator leaks (now fixed), move seat forward (so Karlene and two kids (30 + old) could drive), add passenger mirror, maybe add the passenger roll bar (this means welding and the body must come off) , etc.... Check things over and look for safety issues. I bought it used with 3320 miles and want to be sure it is safe and reliable. The guy who built it SEEMS to have done a good job, but with this much potential, I want to know it is safe.

As far as Drags, I have to admit I have never been to one, much less raced myself. This is the first time I have owned a car that could drag race, possibly?? I do not own a helmet and am not sure the car would pass the safety inspection. I have read (on FFCobra) if the car is capable of 13.99 sec. or better then certain extra safety equipment is required. Of course I do not know what it could do with a good driver.

Drag day is in May, correct? Has the date been set???

I plan to pick it up April 19 and Karl should have it done. So I will try to make Drag day, to at least watch.

Are you planning to come to Gess and the trip to the dyno on April 19???

Yep, I'm coming to Gess, I don't think there are any dyno plans for that day though. If we do a dyno day we will have to set it up with Dan. He usually only can do about 4-5 cars in a day. So we would have to go straight to his shop.

Just another cruising day opportunity.

As for the drag racing. You should be able to drive your car and pass the inspection. They are pretty easy going at Byron. You can borrow a helmet and I also think they have ones to loan out at the track. It hasn't been a problem before.

It is a great place to really get to stand on it and see what it is capable of. Plus, we can always use another Blue car team member.

If you don't feel like racing, you can always come out and support the Blue team.

Can't wait until spring.

Well I made a little trip to Elburn today and it looks like I have Jerry and Corey Clayton on the project.

So we should be seeing a new (blue) cobra on the road
this summer

Thanks for everyone suggestions and advise.

Ed
