Default Illinois emissions testing question:

I bought a completed car from a guy in Rhode Island. With no problem at all I transferred the title to me and I have plates now (PHOR 27). DMV wouldn't do it as a 1965 so its a 2005 on the title. My question is regarding what am I going to do for emissions testing? Obviously, a carburated 427 crate engine isn't going to meet 2005 standards.

You can apply for an emissions waiver.
Did RI title it as a 1965? Surprised IL didn't take it.

Are you going to make it out to Fuddruckers on Thursday night? I can let you know how the process worked for me.

I bought mine used in 07 and transfered it to ILL as it was titled, a 1965 from Missouri.

2005. I wonder if that's an irreversible problem now.

I brought a Backdraft up from Florida that was titled at 1965 Cobra and Il Sec of State titled it as a 1965 Backdraft Roadster. I did have to get someone from law enfrocement come look at the VIN tag because it had to valid manufacturing VIN , such as FOMOCO or GM. A cop who is a friend had to sign the form and enter his badge number stating that he actually looked at the car . Go to the IL Sec of State WEB site there is a speciality vehicles title form and information. It may still be possible to get it changed.

You can also go to the emmissions location when it comes up for testing and ask for an insurance waiver. As long as the car is used for shows, club events or going to the shop you can get exempt for a year or something like that. Sorry I couldn't be more specific! A bunch of guys use the insurance waiver.
