Cool! What is the "Calliope"? It appears a cross between a hemi & SOHC but without the overhead cams - interesting.

Justin.......
I wish! This rare engine was on a stand at the Monterey Historics in 2003.
It was intended for LeMans in 1968, but I don't believe it ever made it's debut.

That is strange to hear that it was at the M. Historics. As I understood it, Ford made 3 of them. One was cut open to be a display, two were on the loading dock to be junked (back in their day) and one of those two disapeared until 2-3 years ago. Ford was notified that they could pick it up at a place in Canada by the person that had taken it off of the loading dock. Ford picked it up and now they have it. That is the story I was told (by the guy that took it from the loading dock). I would have to imagine that the other one survived also. Regards, Justin

Interesting. Since 2003 was the "Ford Marque" at the Historics, it just may be the engine that you described above?

To the inquiry regarding WHAT the engine was. It was a pushrod engine. It was, if my recollection is correct, 3 valve. It had 2 cams, one atop the other and probably one for intake and one for exhaust. I would have to dig out an old Hot Rod that has the tech on it and a few other Ford engines of the time, but believe it was 2 intake and 1 exhaust. Besides LeMans, I think it was also supposed to be used in the Can Am series. It may have even been tested in a Can Am car, that would be in an old Sports Car Graphic of the era. But that's the primary breakdown. Very neat engine, pushrods rule,LOL.
