agreed, and according to papers accompanying the car, listed as a 1965, the RTA register the vehicle as the 1965 compliance plate suggest. i am aware of the 30 years for LHD rule and therefore it was confirmed to be correct prior to purchasing. as the RTA agreed that the documents are genuine and all checks at the time came through.. it seemed correct. price was paid accordingly.
i do see that all csx4001 and following were apparently built elsewhere but the papers here shows different. also, if the registry says i have a 428 why am i looking at a 427 badge?

can it be possible that since it is an early CSX- being the 4048 - it may be a much more original, parts and built wise than say a CSX4800 for example?

also, the vendor was a dealer, and it was unregistered at the time of purchase.

I would check with Ned Scudder or similiar at SAAC. You can find them on the SAAC site Shelby American Automobile Club.
I have been to a number of their events and one in particular at Cal. saw me about to purchase either a Kirkham or CSX 4000 series car. At the time the CSX 4000 vehicle was just over $100,000.
I had the opportunity to talk briefly with Shelby who offered to do a photo with me if I brought one..
I had just finished the GT40 drive across Route 66 for Kit car magazine so his associates saw the opportunity for me to grab a CSX4000 car - Mmm but not at a reduced price..
Speciality Motor vehicles in the States has five CSX Cobras for sale between $100,000 and $120,000. Most are titled by the DMV as 1965. Most would comply with SB100 in California.
If the car you have is accepted as a 1965 vehicle in Australia then that obviously meets rego requirements.

CSX4048, I would respectfully suggest that you NEED to get in touch with SAAC or Shelby American directly. All 1960's Cobras are CSX2000s or CSX3000s. All other CSX series are modern but sometimes get registered as 1965s because that is the year model they "replicate"; funny U.S. DMV rules and looks like somebody was able to fool Australian DMV that it is a 1965... Regarding the price you state you paid, maybe you should contact an attorney because, if true, the vehicle was clearly misrepresented to you and if you have it in writing, then very possibly sufficient to begin a law suit of some kind. I would also suggest that you trying to sell this vehicle as a 1965 would also be misrepresenting the vehicle and putting yourself at risk of future law suits yourself. In any case, I would suggest you do a little more homework prior to trying to sell this vehicle on the open market and especially on this site where buyers are more knowledgeable about these vehicles then elsewhere..

firstly, thanks Bernie for the offer, just noticed the email.
Fred, thanks for the advice, i only advertised here as of now, today, because thought this to be the best place. i am not intending to mislead anyone so i am happy to openly discuss the situation here.
the price was indeed paid and i guess i the item was misrepresented to me, i will seek my solicitor advice in regards to that.
also,
if the chassis and the engine, possibly the body as well, are true OLD NEW STOCK than that makes them 1965 original but not assembled until a later stage.. would it be reason enough to justify a compliance of 1965 car? and wouldn't it be considered a 1965 car although was never registered at that time?

Wow, what a story! I read the advert as linked to from the older post, and it clearly describes this as a continuation-series Cobra. I hate to say it, but this may be a case of caveat emptor. Then again, the car will be worth whatever fair market value is in Australia these days for a CSX4000-series Cobra. Best of luck.

I know this car well and know where you purchased it from! I hate to say it but that somebody has definitely misrepresented the vehicles vintage to you. If you truely paid 700K as you stated, then you paid double the asking price at the time. The registration "loophole" has now been closed where you could get away with a 65 "titled" imported Cobra and register it as such, this does NOT make it a 65 vintage....sorry bud. Whip some but if you have to, that somebody tried telling me it was an "original" as well, wrong person to try and pull a fast one! Stef

BTW, just because the badge on the valve covers says 427, that doesn't necessarily mean that the engine in fact is a 427. It is not uncommon for folks with 428's to put 427 badges on the valve covers of the engine.
If the car were indeed an aluminum-bodied CSX, then I would say the car's value, IMHO, would be $100-150K, but not a fiberglass CSX.

I have also made enquiries re this vehicle.
Put simply it is a continuation. Correctly tagged as a CSX4000 series.
It value in Australia would be somewhere - without seeing the car - between $110 - 150,000.
Taking into consideration anyone can import from Speciality Car sales etc for that price or less with GST, shipping, import costs etc. added in.
The vehicle although titled as a 1965 by the DMV it is not a recognised 1965 vehicle here. As pointed out by 'stefanog' on this forum above, the registration guidelines have changed with manufacture dates being relevant now.
Additionally, the CSX4000 cars are not titled as 1965 in all States of the USA. The California SB100 I believe places them as a year of manufacture.
Smog rules from US State to State vary.
A Coddington 1932 roadster is not a 1932 car, but a year of manufacture vehicle and as such needs to have emission, EPA compliance, etc. etc.
See the related lawsuits regarding some of these vehicles and the result.
After surfing through various continuation cars on the web. I would say this car - without any disrespect to you - is worth around $100,000.
CSX continuation vehicles are a similiar price to a new SPF which now carries Shelby's signature and numerical continuation numbers.
The price of a SPF in the States is roughly 60% of a CSX4000 continuation model.
I may be wrong here, but I think the Kirkham vehicle and the continuation vehicles both come out of the MIG factory...
Although many of the CSX 4000 cars are fibreglass as well.
Again, I am a little unsure of the body manufacturers of the CSX4000.
There is also a new registry here in Australia for CSX vehicles and it carries a number of Mustangs and a few Cobras on its books.
Forum users here can possibly describe the cars and name the owners for every genuine CSX car here in Australia - including the CSX4000 series.
I would also send a PM to Trevor Legate on this Forum. Trevor whilst based in England is also a good source of detail having written a number of best selling books on the CSX cars.

I even think the glove box signature is not real.
I know Shelby will sign anything for a donation and I have stood next to him at Fontana Raceway in California watching him sign glove box doors from Mustangs to Cobras for a $150 donations to his Heart charity.
Again, I will be corrected on the signature, but I do not recall him ever signing a CSX number with his signature or under lining his signature with the double stripped line.
As I said I am happy to be proved wrong here...
