So the MSO is the Manufacturers Statement of Origin - the 'birth certificate' but not the build date or registration date?

Merv,
That is correct...Heck, even early FFR, SPF, ERA, Unique (and more) had a year of manufacturer of 1965. Done as that was what it replicated, not the actual date of manufacturer.

Wow! Talk about a house of pain! Hey, the car has already depreciated about $600K, so you might as well just make room for it in your collection and enjoy it. Guessing that the person who sold you the car was leaving the country forever.

People play games with words. Yes, your car is an "original" and "real" Shelby Cobra, but it's not an original and real Shelby Cobra built in the 1960's with a CSX number in the 3000's. Those cars are worth hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars.
Here's an ALUMINUM CSX4000 roller, no engine and transmission, asking $120,000:

But, your car is fiberglass. The CSX fiberglass rollers are presently selling for $50K and will be going up to $60K on 12/1/10. Though the new rollers are CSX6000's since they ran out of 4000 numbers.

An offence under the crime Act - Theft by deception. Section 178B Crimes Act 1900 covers this offence in NSW.
Mmmm worth considering and reporting...

Deception? Here is a link to the advertisement by Rudolph Masi http://www.piccola.com.au/sa-sales_listings.htm the car does not really appear to be misrepresented. The date on the PDF is 1/05/2008. I believe the car was advertised for sale for $580,000 which would put it about the same time csx 4048 said he paid $700,000 for it.????? So would stamp duty, does Luxury vehicle tax apply and GST come into it ? It may bring it up nearer to $700K I dunno... PS I live on the coast if anyone wants me to take it for a test drive.

BMK, thanks for the info, will look into it.
legless, i agree, the dealer did state it was a continuation but not a replica and as such appeared more valuable.
we'll see what we do, may end up keeping it if that's all its worth...

Based on the link, not much deception. Buyer just overpaid. No law against that....GR

"No law against that." - true, but it doesn't make it right.

I think people who are assuming the ad proves no deception on the part of the seller are also assuming everyone knows what a "continuation" cobra is. However, that is not the case. If the seller lists it as a continuation car but then knowingly represents to an unsuspecting buyer that continuation cars are real '65 cobras, or maybe that this is one of the cars a lot of guys called completion cobras from the late '80's, that is still deception. Now I'm not going to get into any kind of talk about what the buyer should have known before writing the check. I am just pointing out that simply listing a term that we my see as commonplace in an ad doesn't mean there wasn't deception if the buyer didn't know the correct meaning of that term and the seller then took advantage and misrepresented it.
