Description:

I am the third owner of this 289 Cobra. All together I’ve owned about seven Cobras including two National Championship cars and I raced one in vintage racing for 10 years. So, when I bought CSX2419 in 2005, I knew that I wanted a very authentic car that would be a great touring car. The result has been fabulous for several 1000 mile runs with up to 30 other original Cobras.
The key elements were originality, reliability and comfort for road trips. Insulation under the carpet and the rear exit exhaust makes the cabin a comfortable place. Great shocks, good radial tires, original front and rear sway bars and original metalastic bushings make the ride great in this great handling car. The 347 CID no-expense-spared pump gas motor loafs along with the 3.30 rear gears, but has plenty of power at any time.
I went through the entire car in 2005-06. The suspension and steering was crack checked and every part was refreshed down to the smallest washer. Records and registrations since 1979 are documented. The original black and yellow California plate is on the car.
In the 30 years with the second owner, the car was painted in the early 1970’s as is now. When he raced it in the Monterey Historics in 1978, a roll bar was installed, but it has been removed. Dayton wire wheels are still fitted. The grille remains in place as does the Talbot Jr. side mirror and original rearview mirror. The interior has the appropriate leather coverings on the inner quarter panels, vinyl on the rear bulkhead, leather everywhere else and Wilton Wool carpet. The seats are correctly stuffed with cotton, not modern foam. Even the Leverall mechanism is properly labeled and the seat belts have the correct tags and latches.
The Stewart Warner gauges are all in working order, even the fuel gauge! The original steering wheel is in perfect shape as are the latches and the rest of the interior. The heater is not installed, but it is available with the venting.
The engine compartment has the original inner panels, footboxes, wiring harness, alternator, brackets, etc. The current cooling system is upgraded with period parts for greater capacity, but the smaller, original system is available.
Per the Shelby American Registry 4th Edition, the last owner had the car for over 30 years. He actually raced in the Monterey Historics in 1978. The hood scoop was installed by the factory from new. The original serial number matching motor is on a stand and comes with the car.

Wow, does that bring back memories! This was the first real Cobra I had ever seen. I had just graduated from a high school auto shop program in Santa Cruz, CA and was contacted by the owner in 1977 and I got to get the car ready for the Montery Historics in 1978. Can you imagine how I felt as he handed me the keys so I could take the car home to my place to work on it!
At the 1978 Montery Historics.

Beautiful car. Have you also thought about listing it through SAAC?

Could you give us a call or PM us your number? It easier to discuss over the phone, rather than waiting on emails. Thanks!
