Hello. My name is Tommy Powell and I have a mid-1990s vintage EM Cobra with Corvette C4 suspension. It has a locally built 410 ci Windsor engine with a Richmond five speed transmission. I have owned it since 2002 and it is titled in my name in the State of Alabama where I live. I was originally built as a dedicated SCCA race car and was quite spartan. I did a body-off rebuild around 2004 to sort out some issues and make it a little more civilized. I have had it on the track (e.g., Roebiling Road) many times and it is far more capable than I am. I haven't had it on a road track for about ten years and I wouldn't have considered selling it had I not messed up last December.
Late last year I went with a group of friends to try drag racing for the very first time. On my third pass, I lost control of the car and slid into the concrete wall. I believe it hit the right rear corner first and that rotated the right front corner harder into the wall. The impact damaged the right rear taillight and body nearby. More significantly it broke the right front suspension and shattered the right front fender. My examination indicates the following were damaged for sure:
- Wheel
- Spindle
- Upper control arm
- Corvette cradle that secured the upper control arm
The arm on the steering rack is also bent, but I have not determined whether the rack is damaged. I walked away without a scratch or bruise (I have a racing seat and five point harness).
My plan until today has been to repair the Cobra when I have time. Although I'm retired, I'm deeply into another car project. I'm building a Cheetah replica and it has become a multiyear job. It may be years before I have time to work on the Cobra and my body is not getting any younger. So when I saw your ad today I decided to contact you. I'm not sure you'll want my car and I'm not certain I want to sell it. But we can talk about it if you're interested.
