Description:

A lot of thought and planning went into building this truck. It is patterned after the "Wheelie Trucks" that became popular in the 60's and 70's. It was decided that the engine and trans would be put as far back in the bed as possible and still be able to use a slip yoke instead of a drive shaft. For wheelies, some of the trucks used Olds Toronado front wheel drive transaxles that were locked where they would no longer turn. This enabled the motor to be placed further back in the bed, but in this case it was decided to use a GM turbo 400 transmission because they are stronger than the transaxles and easier to repair. The tube chassis frame was built with a removable crossmember in case the motor/trans needed to be pulled. An access cover was also built inside the truck body to be able to work on the front of the motor.
Rather than have the rear tires stick out of radiused wheel wells, the Ford 9" Nodular steel rear end was narrowed so the 18" wide Mickeys would be inside the body and tubbed. The straight front axle was narrowed and a long tub that went over both front tires was built into the body. The front axle had 1/2 of the original leaf springs on each side to act as radius rods, and adjustable coil overs were installed at all 4 corners of the truck frame.
The truck was stripped and rusty parts were replaced. It has a full Pro Street tube chassis with removable center section in chassis in case engine or transmission needs to be pulled. Adjustable coil overs mounted on all 4 corners. Has Panhard bar & wishbone rear axle locater, plus wheelie bars.
The 454/turbo 400 is mounted in the bed for better weight distribution. It has a narrowed nodular* 9" 3:55 posi Ford truck rear end with disc brakes and Moroso U joint girdles, plus a Hurst/Airheart caliper with disc pinion mounted parking brake with new cable. Moon style aluminum 10 gallon fuel tank with foam and sending unit. Fram canister fuel filter.
The front axle is*a narrowed*Econoline straight axle with coil overs and half leaf springs as radius rods, and disc brakes.*Calipers have been replaced and Wilwood master cylinder added*.**Stainless brake lines. Howe aluminum radiator with electric cooling fan and transmission cooler -- mounted in the RH side of the truck bed.
Interior of the cab is coated in Line X type material, and the inside of the bed, aluminum tubs and aluminum floor of the bed are coated as well. Cloth bucket seats with Ford seat belts and padded door panels have been installed.
The seats will tilt forward to allow easy access to the front of the motor by removing the access panel in the cab. A new tinted windshield & rubber has been installed, plus new rubber around the back glass. New door whiskers, vent window rubbers and door seals have been installed along with new chrome door handles. New tail light lenses and new parking light lenses have been installed.
A complete Painless type wiring harness has been installed, along with a GM tilt steering column. Push button start.
A set of period Stewart Warner Stage III gauges have been installed in a polished aluminum plate along with a large tachometer. Has turn signals, high beam and emergency brake indicator lights. Also has a horn.
*
New stainless wiper arms and blades have been installed.
Has roll protection with double roof bars and EZ entry door bars.
The truck sits low, and has a perfect stance. If it sits too low to suit you, coil overs can be adjusted to raise the ride height.
The truck is painted in race car quality 2K hardened primer - which has been smoothed. It*will need sanding, final*finish bodywork, *primed again*& block sanded until finish is satisfactory*&*painted.
Has a custom made FORD lettered tailgate.
Motor: very streetable standard bore 454 with GM LS flat top pistons - 4 bolt mains and forged crank. Completely rebuilt and by machine shop. Has a choppy idle Lunati 292H camshaft, oval port heads - polished Edelbrock street tunnel ram with two 650 Edelbrock carbs with electric chokes and fuel pressure gauge mounted in the fuel line. Moroso chrome valve covers and Moroso electric water pump.
Has Accel electronic distributor, coil and plug wires. Has high torque 1.9 HP starter, and new Holley Red electric fuel pump.
Since the motor is behind the cab, a fresh air system with 2 carb hats is installed that pulls fresh air from the front of the truck with inline tubing mounted fans --- a new idea that hasn't been seen before.
Has custom built headers with 2 1/4" primaries, and 4" collectors with cut out plugs - plus 4" exhaust pipes with Flowmasters with 4" turndowns. Motor has less than 4 hours total run time.
Fresh oil/filter in motor. Solid motor mounts, mid mounts and transmission mount, motor is balanced. Turbo 400 transmission with SFI flexplate and 3600 RPM stall converter. Braided dipsticks on the transmission and motor.
It will light up the Mickey Thompson Sportsman 18" wide rear tires. Weld aluminum wheels front & rear. Has a custom chrome tube grille and front and rear bumpers. Winters Racing gated shifter with new Morse cable. Truck has a clear title.
This is a very rare truck, and when finished will be worth large money.
Plus, if you take it to a car show even in primer and a Lamborghini is parked next to you, this truck will get more attention than most any car there.
This truck was built to drive on the street, and should pass state inspection as all the required lights are there and work -
and it has a pinion mounted emergency brake.
When was the last time you saw a tube chassis Econoline pickup with a big block in the bed? (except on TV)
Would make a great tow vehicle for your Serpent Express trailer !
Truck runs and drives well, but is not currently registered and will need to be trailered or transported*to buyers destination.
It would cost well over $35,000.00 plus several hundred hours labor to build this truck again.
$28,500.00 Truck is located in Waco, Texas
Will sell as a "roller" without the 454/turbo 400 & headers for $22,500.00 Firm.
