HI TECH MOTOR SPORTS 1965 COBRA
REDUCED: 1965 427SC Cobra manufactured by Hi Tech Motorsports of AZ in 1998 to exacting original cobra specifications (note photos & stance of car). California registration, 1965 Ford Roadster – VIN #HTM65C0104. Ford Victory Red with White Stripes, full Camel leather interior with carpeting. Hi Tech Motorsports in the 1990s set the reproduction standards that became the CSX continuation cobras.
Under the Hood: Original 1972 Ford Windsor 420ci Stroker-Motor from Shaver Racing, Torrance CA. Dyno Sheet; (551hp, 568tq. in a 2460lb cobra.) Instant power, instant speed. Note: This engine was dyno tested with an HEI ignition. After engine installation it was then fitted with MSD 6AL system - added 15 hp. Have dyno sheet and photos of complete build and all changes made.
Outfitted With: Scat Crank & Rods, JE Pistons, Cleveite Bearings, Comp Cams hyd-roller, Isky Lifters, Jessel Rockers. Edelbrock Victor C&C Ported Aluminum Heads, SS valves, port-matched Victor Jr alum manifold, with Holly 750 double-pumper Race Carb topped with Cobra K&N Oval Air Cleaner and polished aluminum “Ford Motorsport” valve covers. Complete MSD ‘Pro Billet’ distributor with ignition wires and 6AL control box under dash. Light weight steel-aluminum flywheel with Centerforce hydraulic clutch. Silver ceramic coated long tube headers, with correct extralong side pipes flowing through 5” diameter “open mufflers” (No baffles - this is a full-throated Cobra, no sound suppression at any speed and the lope at idle always draws a crowd).
Cooling & Oil Systems: Original Shelby style (correctly located) single-core aluminum radiator with high cmf inside electric puller cooling fan activated by either manual or temp switch (at front of radiator is frame to mount original style dual fans). Always runs at moderate 150° to 180° in any weather. Remote aluminum front oil cooler with SS lines and ANAS fittings below radiator. Milodon 7qt pan with windage tray, Melling high volume oil pump, remote high capacity filter unit with temp gauge-sender, all braided SS lines with ANAS aircraft style fittings. Original style “up top” Ford surge tank with rubber and aluminum hoses, and correct pressure cap.
Gear Train: Tremec 3550 TKO 5 speed transmission, balanced drive shaft with safety loop, Ford Posi-Traction 9” differential converted to IRS (3:55-1) with re-enforced half-shafts and outboard Willwood brakes. This is the same “bullet-proof” Ford IRS rear suspension used on the first Shelby continuation cars (rated for over 600 hp). Recently serviced with new seals.
Body, Chassis, Suspension & Brakes: Hand laid glass body bonded to frame on Hi-Tech original-style reinforced 4” round tube tig-welded chassis with X-style front (cross-frame) suspension. Rack & pinion steering. Fully independent front and rear suspension with limited slip Ford 9” IRS rear differential. A-arm front suspension with full Alden adjustable coil-overs front & rear. Willwood vented disc brake pistons and calipers with all SS lines. Back-braced reinforced chrome steel roll bar. Aluminum paneling in all wheel wells, engine compartment, and trunk lining. Body molds are from original 1965 CSX 3190.
Fuel System: New Aluminum Fuel Safe 18gal tank (with baffle foam and fittings) just installed (2017). Holley Red fuel pump and filler fitted in rear compartment (kill switch under dash). All SS braided lines with AN fittings. SS line at carburetor has pressure gage (see engine photos).
Rolling Stock: Painted & polished cast 15" original Halibrand-style six pin-drive wheels (8.5” front & 10.5” rear) and stainless-steel spinner knockoffs, shod with NEW (Oct 2017) BF Goodrich 'Radial T/A' rubber [255/60Rx15" front; 275/60Rx15" rear]. Knockoffs drilled for safety wire.
In the [Legend-correct] cockpit: Original-style 15” Moto-Lita hardwood-rimmed steering wheel, right-hand side turn indicator lever with flasher dash lights, seven Smiths Instrument black faced gauges [with 'correct' reverse-winding 180 mph speedometer]; special camel color leather interior with full carpets, correct reverse shifter arm & AC pedals, driver 4-point Simson quick-release harness & lap belt, correct door and hood latch fittings, leather map pocket in each door.
Electrical: New (2017) Optima 12v Gel Battery with aluminum retention box in trunk. Cockpit kill switch behind passenger seat. Lucus style headlights with turn-indicator & high beam switch on right-side of column. Horn button on left dash with light intensity knob.
Fitment and livery: Rear view mirror in hand made bracket sits on upper center windshield, with separate oval mirror on upper windshield for left rear view. Wind wings & tinted visors. Polished aluminum LeMans fuel cap, COBRA hood & trunk badges, 427SC side badges, and rear license plate light. Comes with original period correct legal California black & yellow plates registered to car – with correct 1965 California orange plate tag and window sticker.
Other particulars: Immaculate Ford Victory Red paint with clear coat & white stripes. Inside of front hood and trunk painted with silver high gloss paint. Soft flannel car cover from Beverly Hills Motors. Left hand seat specially altered (frame narrowed and moved 3’ to rear) to fit tall drivers for extra leg room. Many small details taken for professional fit and finish, have photos of everything stated in this advertisement. Comes with many small extras left to owner’s use.
Recently serviced & inspected – starts every time, ready to drive away! Only 3,930 miles (2280 miles on new engine) never raced, always garaged and carefully covered. 2018 California registration current.
The rewards and pleasures when driving this cobra can not be measured. The “thumbs up”, the “A Okay” sign, the cell phone photos, and the small children pressed against a side window - are to be treasured. Regularly, people ask “Is it real?” – “I tell them no, it’s a mirage”.
This is a magnificent reproduction of Cobra racing history – wickedly fast and mechanically accurate, identical to current CSX cars for half the price. Offered at $52,500 - REDUCED.
