1965 Custom 427 Backdraft Racing Cobra SCCA NASA HSR Race Car
This is a rare opportunity to own a custom built Backdraft Racing street legal race car. She is an absolutely unique car, there is nothing like it anywhere in the world.
The car has a clear title and is titled in Florida as a 1965. She is almost complete, with some very minor finishing touches required. The trunk aluminum needs to be finished, rear cockpit aluminum needs to be finished, and the hood pins and trunk latch need to be installed. Unfortunately my priorities have changed, and she has to go.
The car started as an un powder coated Backdraft Racing lightweight race chassis and 3 piece removable body. A custom race legal cage and cockpit structure was fabricated. The chassis/ cage structure was then powder
coated and the build started.

All aluminum panels are powder coated. All fasteners are marine grade stainless steel. All hoses are high pressure stainless steel braid with AN fittings
Custom built 427 Windsor dry sump motor rated at 635 hp
Avaiad external dry sump system with Peterson 3 gal oil reservoir in trunk
44 row oil cooler
Brodix ported heads
Power steering with adjustable boost valve
Power steering cooler
Ceramic coated custom built headers and side pipes
8” Quatermaster clutch with McCleod hydraulic throwout bearing
MSD 7AL-2 ignition system
MSD HVC II coil
G-Force T-56R race transmission with straight cut gears and short shifter
Chrome 100amp alternator
Show quality plug wire looms and wiring
Blue silicone coolant hoses
Solid motor mounts
Quicktime steel road race bell housing
Odyssey AGM battery with Odyssey Stainless steel hold down assembly
Chassis:
BMW M3 fully adjustable race suspension
Wilwood big brake kit with 2 piece vented rotors
Wilwood pedal box with separate Wilwood master cylinders for brakes and clutch
BMW M3 3:64 Limited slip differential
2 sets 17” wheels and tires. One set for the street, one for the track with new Hoosier R6 race tires
ATL 22 gal Road Race fuel cell
Interior:
There is no carpeting or interior panels, they can be added with ease
Floors are powdercoated. Foot boxes, transmission tunnel and interior cockpit panels are powdercoated aluminum
Custom built carbon fiber dash with full sweep Autometer Ultralight II gauges
All marine grade wiring, switches and connectors.
Battery and alternator disconnect mounted for driver access
Kirkey Aluminum Intermediate Road Race drivers seat
Kirkey aluminum low back passenger seat
The car can be driven with or without the factory hardtop. The body is removable in 3 separate main pieces, and the car is totally drivable with no fiberglass body parts attached. She can be run on regular pump gas, although race fuel is recommended for track use.
She has not yet been driven on the race track or street, and it shows. She is an amazing head turner, and is at home at a car show, or passing cars on a race track.

I have had some interesting phone calls and a couple of emails. I am also throwing out the option of selling her as a complete rolling chassis, which can accommodate anything from a pushrod 302, FE or current 4.6 or Coyote. The only difference would be the headers, which are readily available
