AC and a Big block?
Does anyone have Air conditioning and a Big Block here? I'm wondering how it fits, if it even does.
Thanks

You'd need air in an open top car?

Girly Man
Same old song, I'll apply it when it's called for.
A replica Cobra,,,,,,,,,,,,,, with A/C ? Just go out and buy a Winnebago, and put side pipes on it, cause you sure ain't being true to the car.

All Cobras have air conditioning.
The "on" button is under your right foot.
Use it often.

Feel the same way about having a stereo in a Cobra or on a motorcycle for that matter. We all march to a different beat some of the battles on the forums attests to that.

While I appreciate the "purist" attitude of the bare bones roadster local climates can be detrimental to getting out and driving our cars. I've seen references to AC in some of the posts from our brethren in Arizona and Florida just off the top of my head. Those areas can be really uncomfortable during the summer. Big question is do you want to drive your car or sit in it in the garage making vroom, vroom noises.
I really enjoy driving my Cobra and go to some lengths to do so. In my neck of the woods the driving season is about 3 months. I can extend that by another month with my heater, top and side curtains. Going for a 3 or 4 hour drive when it's 40 degrees outside wouldn't be possible without them. The additional driving time is worth more to me than the flames for having them. If I were in the hotter climates AC would definitely be on the table.
I'll pile on with tongue in cheek shots at one of our club members who owns a GT40 but everyone envies him when we're punching through an unexpected downpour.

Well, as I've said many many times before. One must suffer, to get the full experience. When I owned CSX 3183, I lived in Ft. Laud Fl. ,,,,AND I drove it all of the time., hot or cold.
I remember one night in March, I was driving back to Ft. Laud from the 12 hrs. of Sebring, it was colder than a well diggers a__ ! Guess what, all that obnoxious heat from the 427 that made summertime driving an adventure,,,,,,,,,,,, was nowhere to be found.
I had the top up, side curtains closed, and the heater on, and I still froze my a__ off,,,, BUT, I loved every minute if it.
Just because you drive yours when it's cold with the top, side curtains and heater, doesn't mean you're a Girly Man. The cars came standard with those items, so you're just using the car as it was intended.

Air in a cobra depends on the depth of your pockets. Besides getting an up to date 134R system, you will need to modify you pulley system for the pump. Is your cooling system large enough? Why you need more rad fans? Is there enough room for the copit additions? What about tunnel space, or how much knee space are you going to loose? Oh my hurting head. Is it really worth it?

It would be nice to have air. But what about having the top up, and a zip-out rear window? Surely, that would be less expensive, and cut down on the sun burns.

My big block has March performance serp belt and vintage air. All fits, and works great. In south Florida, you need the a/c, open car of not. Vents are in footwells and dash, keeps everything cool. Only problem, a/c hoses come with aluminum ends that attach to the compressor. The engine vibration with solid motor mounts will break down that connector. You will need to get a steel connector piece and pitch the aluminum.

We just delivered a Boss 351W Ford Racing 460 with a/c. Used the Vintage Air Front Runner. Fits tight but does not change much. We build a flat shelf tunnel in the cockpit to accommodate the ac/heater/defroster. Engine required a larger scoop in the hood to fit. Not a problem with the 351w 427 or the 427FE side oiler. All in if the car needs modification you are looking at $10,000 if car is delivered to us. Must adapt our harness for the addition and fan switch to control cooling if ac is not turned on.
