It was not Shelby's Wildlife, was it? WEISS was author.

Wikipedia says production started in January, '65. Supercars.net says the first one built was March, '65. Shelbyautos.com says the S/C debuted in '66. I don't know how accurate the Wikipedia article is but there is a comprehensive article on AC Cobra history at AC Cobra - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ned has been the SAAC 427 Registrar for 100 years. He'll be pissed that you cited 3 bogus sources...

AC Cars started production of the coil-spring chassis in the late summer of '64. Shelby received the first bare prototype chassis in October of that year. The first 427 race car was a prototype which used an alloy skin cobbled together from a race 289 with added flaring around the wheel openings, and this car first appeared in late '64/ early '65 during initial testing. So one could say 427 production started then. The first 427 Cobra production car wasn't finished until the spring of '65, and delivery of the cars really didn't get ramped up until April/ May. I hope this clarifies things somewhat.
