AC CSX Wire Wheels
I'll start this thread by mentioning that although I have a very low post count here at clubcobra, I've been around the site for six years or so and have been working on my FFR for the past three years - pics on the windy city cobra club subforum.
I have a friend who owns a vintage race car prep and maintenance shop here in the Chicago area and who recently showed me a set of what he claims are original AC / CSX wire wheels that came off of a late CSX 2000 series car quite a few years ago - he didn't remember the exact number, but thought it may have been 2465. Given the caliber of cars he currently works on and the fact that his father (and he, as a young guy helping around the shop) worked on many of the original cars that were run by Chicago Region SCCA members back in the late '60s and early '70, the claim may have some merit.
The wheels all have the following markings along the inside of the rim:
X464
RSM67 6LX15 BU
Made in England (with "made in" above "England")
Some sort of symbol follows the Made in England stamp, too.
The wheels were repainted white and the paint makes is somewhat difficult to see the markings, but here are a few pictures.
He would like to see these reunited with one of the original cars, so please let me know via PM if you are interested in them or if you know someone who may be, and I'll put you in touch with him.
Regards,
Chris

If the donor car was 2465, it is unlikely the wheels are needed, as it is now a coupe with FIA alloys.

But I'd have to say, it's a pretty outstanding auto enthusiast that seeks out the owner of the original car that mates the parts found in his collection!
Tip of the hat,
DD

And the rest of the story is that CSX2465 was stolen in '71. "Police located it two weeks later in South San Francisco, missing its wheels..."

Now that's funny! My friend said he wasn't sure of the number, so from what is mentioned above about it being a coupe now, I'm guessing that is not the correct number. The car in question was owned by Dick H. in the western suburbs of Chicago - but I don't know when he sold the car. I was told that the wheels were painted white for possible use on a Healey when different wheels were put on the Cobra. I'll ask him to do a bit more digging and see if he can come up with the actual chassis number.
In the mean time, can anyone tell by the markings whether these are legitimate AC wheels or if they're just off some other British car of similar vintage?

I picked up a set of 427 sunburst wheels along with documented history of the csx3000 car they where from. The first thing I did was contact the current owner of the car to see if he was intetested in having them back with his car.
He was not interested so they have found a new home.
If I had a original cobra and some one offered original parts the car was born with I would be all over them.

X 464 is the correct number for the painted wire wheel assembly in the 15X6 size. (Original issue painted wheels and chrome plated wheels have different outer rims.)

When I tried to buy CSX2465 long ago it was an idependent racer less than a mile from my house with 15X6.5 six spoke magnesium wheels all around.

Dave Wathen, Do you have photos of the model numbers for both the painted wires and the chrome wires tha thou got from Joe?
I am in discussions with Motor Wheel Service International, Ltd. the current distributor for Dunlop wheels, regarding the correct rim configuration for the 60's version of the chrome wires vs painted wires. Photos showing the rim configuration would help a great deal, if possible ( a view showing cross section of the wheel without the tire mounted.). Thanks very much.

Chris, for some reason the wheel photos are no longer visible. Could you post a cross section of the rim and the model number stamping, X464?
Thanks very much.

I'm sure you know already but there is a cross section drawing in the 289 Chassis Manual.
It shows the wheel, spindle, brake etc but it's of the older 5.5" wheel.

Csx2465
Just a quick note on CSX2465. I saw it yesterday in a small, used/consignment car dealer in Newport Beach, CA. They are asking $2M.
