Superformance starting procedure
Could anyone out there let me know the starting procedures for a 1996 Superformance?
The owner indicated that it is a bit unusual. We are sending a prepurchase inspector out check the car and we would like to know in advance how to start it. The owner is not going to be there for assistance.
Thanks,
Skip
Ps. I also put this question in the Superformance section

No different than any other car BUT...what type of induction? Carb or Fuel injection? What engine?
Note that SPFs have a circuit for neutral safety starter switch so it may need to be in neutral if that was used. And electric or mechanical fuel pump? The electric pump may be on a switch or hard wired to the ignition, they can be done both ways.

Mark IV,
Carburetor on a Ford V8. That is all we know. Sorry, I'm not sure if it is a big or small block. Would that matter?
Also, is it car in neutral, key in ignition, fuel pump on, push button start or ?

For a carbed engine, shift to neutral, give gas pedal one pump, turn on ignition, push start button, go look for your dog.

When the car starts, the noise will scare the crap out of him.

Key start on a Superformance, no "start button".

You would be surprised how many people have added a start button.
I had to add the installation detail on my Wiring Diagrams.
Some actually removed the key completely, just get in, flip a hidden switch, push the button and go....
Insurance nightmare I would think......

I was thinking that but was too chicken to post it. You are right on.
And if the seller is really interested in selling, would he not make sure any hidden switches, etc. are revealed to the inspector?

Gentlemen,
As for sending out the wrong inspector...........
We send out inspectors all over the US. Not all of them are checked out in every type of vehicle ever made. For instance, how many of you can you tell me how to start a 1927 Star, or a 1935 Packard Eight from you own personal knowledge? The inspector we sent out to look at the Superformance can do that.
I was simply trying to avoid having our inspector challenged on a vehicle that he may not be too familiar with after he arrived. Reproduction automobiles often have "systems" that are different from the original vehicle.
Thanks to the input from many of you, I was able to tell our inspector the procedure that would most likely work. He did find that the Superformance he inspected had a starter button (owner added or not) and actually had no problem getting it started.
Thank you all for your assistance.
