Default KMP 736 steps out

First drive (illegally) today. Laptop on the passenger seat so I could monitor AFR. Injection isn't barely tuned yet.

Congrats!
What FI system are you running?
Dig those valve covers, too.

Thanks Rodney. The FI is FAST XFI, port injection and sequential. Eventually i think it'll run great.

Looks great! I'm interested in your combination. Mine's starting out carb but I'd love to go EFI. Which intake manifold is that? Looks like it fits under the hood just fine.

The intake is an Edelbrock Victor. For a multiport throttle body setup, it's pretty much the only one to use. It's the standard single plane intake for an FE. This one came from Edelbrock with the injector bungs, for which I had the privilege of paying an extra $300. Robbery. If i had been more resourceful, I would have had the bungs added by a good aluminum welder.
As for hood clearance, that was a bit tricky. The Victor is pretty tall, so I had 1/4" machined off the carb mounting pad right from the get go. The throttle body was from Mass-Flo, but dimensionally, most throttle bodies are pretty similar in height...I've looked at virtually all of them. The air cleaner is 9" in diameter with a 2.75" element. It fits through the cutout in the hood and sits right up in the scoop with about 1/8" to spare. With that little space above, the K&N filter top is probably useless, but I thought it looked good, and maybe it helps. Really, any big block needs a proper 14x4 or 5 air cleaner, but there isn't a cobra in the world that that would fit in. So it's the best I could do.

Incidentally, throttle body injection like FAST-EZ, or MSD Atomic (or multiple others) would allow the use of the typical Edelbrock Performer RPM dual plane manifold, which is considerably lower than the Victor. But I wanted to make it as complicated as humanly possible, short of an 8 stack that is....

Congrats! Well done.

That air filter has got to be killing that motor though. What are the plans for paint?

I'm sure it is. When you think about it though, the Stellings on the originals were far worse, so it's somewhat better than atrocious.

As for paint, it's going to stay brushed aluminum with polished stripes as it is now.

Thanks Dan. I wanted the undercar exhaust and the roll bar delete, but I wanted a hood scoop (for practical as well as appearance reasons) and an oil cooler. So she's a bit of a bastard, but she's my bastard!

As for the exhaust, talk about tight packaging. There was simply no room for error when they were built by Kirkham. Originally, they looked like the photo taken with them adjacent to the headers.

The pipes were fabricated using a dummy block and heads in Provo. Due to tolerance stack-ups and the inevitable subtle differences in position of the block, heads, and transmission, the driver's side pipe didn't fit. So, I had some flex couplers tig welded in by a local exhaust fabricator.

If anyone is considering a full undercar exhaust, I strongly recommend using these. Plus it really helps with vibration isolation. Wouldn't want my pretty headers to crack! The engine needs to come out to remove them, which would be a bad day.

Those are nice looking headers. ERAs are a bit more utilitarian but the nice thing is they can go on and come off with the engine in the car. Those mufflers look like SpinTechs if I'm not mistaken. That is what I used 2-1/2 inch in and out SpinTechs that are 3 inch thick. They sound pretty good to me - a good healthy rumble at idle but fairly quite cruising along. Step on the throttle and they roar pretty good. Again - very nice car.
