Headers Too Close to fiberglass panels??

Hi
I have been away for 2 years and have just returned to continue working on my Cobra.
While I was test driving with the engineer before I left there was too much heat that caused the paint on the inner panels near the headers to start smoking.

I have removed the inner engine bay panels and ground off the paint I am going to stick some heat shield on the area close to the headers, can anyone tell me if the fibreglass will melt or catch fire being too close to the header pipes?

Yes it can do both if it gets to hot. Remember the old Excaliber Cobras. That was their downfall as they had under car exhausts and several of them burned. I saw a couple that a car hauler was taking through here and one had burned all the way to the back of the seats and was so hot the steering coluum was just a pile of molten metal in what was the floor.

Try the heat shielding and if you aren't showing the car, use a good type of header wrap as thet will lower the temperature quite a bit.

The ACL heat shielding works a treat. Ford use it as an OEM solution to shield the headers on their Falcons and Territory's. You can get it from Super Cheap Auto.

Also echo the heat wrap...or you can send the headers off to HPC Coatings in Leongatha Vic to be ceramic coated. But don't put the exhaust wrap over ceramic coated headers...the wrap will go brittle and the ceramic coating will end up flaking off. I speak from experience! (was ill-informed by a tuner to do this and it ended up being a costly mistake for me).
