Default Old Gas Stations - This is GREAT:

This is neat. The photos are the best compilation I've ever seen: Pleasant Family Shopping: The Golden Age of Gas Stations

Check out the pumps on the very last photo - the Sinclair station. I've NEVER seen anything like that!

Very cool!
This is where I used to gas up and worked in Issaquah, WA about 100 years ago. It's still there and now preserved as part of "Old Town". Some of you Pacific Northwest folks will recognize it. I know Computerworks will!

Most of stations remind me of HO Gauge railroad models. Good times.....

Bernica,

I visited this town and saw this station when I was in Ft. Lewis as I did lot of sight seeing while waiting to get out of the service. Brought out a lot of memories as when I was just a kid I worked in one of my Uncle's stations and he had the old tall hand pumps that you pumped the gas up into the glass tube at the top and it was gravity fed. I believe that regular was about 29 cents a gallon back them and Ethel was around 33 cents per gallon.

Ah, the good old days. Let me see if I can date myself, a gas station on all four corners, 21 cents a gallon, unless there was a "gas war" then the price dropped to 19 cents a gallon. Oh ya, the cars got between 8 to 10 MPG. I had a friend that had a 426 super stock hemi he drove on the street during the week, then took it to the drags on the weekend. He got 4 MPG. Ah the good old days.

I missed the good ole days so much I built a 1937 replica of the country store my Dad took me to when I was young.
It's called Crooked Oak. If any of you ever visit the hill country of Texas let me know and you're welcome to stop by and get a photo with your cobra.

I worked on a project a few years ago where we converted an old Pure Oil Gas Station into a drive thru for the new bank next door.
It is called Geneva Bank and Trust in Geneva, IL.
The Bank found an old Pure Oil sign in Virginia and had it restored for use on the street corner. Neat way to preserve/re-purpose a Historic Building. The Pure Oil sign was removed and mounted on the wall of the old service station.
This pic was taken before the project was 100% complete.

BT,

That is an amazing job that you did there. I would really like to have a picture of my Coupe at your station. Thanks for the memories.

Ron,
You get out here someday and take all the photos you want.
I've had several events here already for car clubs and the Texas Cobra club. They all seem to like the place very much. I'm going to also have some motorcycle clubs here too. I have a lage pavilion across from the store and plenty of parking.

Here's my favorite of a station in Anaheim across from Disneyland:

Of course I love it because of the Healey, but the story behind the picture is really cool, too: Just a Healey Pulling in for a Fill-Up | The Chicane

I used to work at Crooked Oak gas station until I got fired due to a disgruntled customer.

You probably didn't pump the gas, wash the windshield and check the tires for the customer!

Hey just this last Friday I pulled at a Pilot Gas Sta in NJ and almost had heart failure when the attendant cleaned my rear tailgate window while the car was, being filled up,. When I was a kid my first job at 14 was pumping gas at a Sinclair station, we were required by the owner to clean the windshields, but also to check the oils and tire pressure.
Boy do I miss the ol' times.

Nice to hear from you Ron

Oh the memories, when in high school back in the early 60's worked in a filling station a couple of summers. So many of the local hot rodders used to swing in a lot of tires got shredded out front. My boss always shook his head but we all knew he enjoyed it. The boss's daughter was gorgeous which I'm sure drew a lot of the action.
