Default Cutting the hard top. How I did it.

I pondered this long, and hard with many a sleepless night.

I just couldn't come up with anything I could use to mimic the curves of the Cobra body onto the hard top.

Finally a stroke of genius, or something like that.

My wife bought a birthday cake that someone didn't pick up. There was a small model tractor on top.

That little tractor sparked an idea.

So what I did was hold a marker on top of the tractor, then pushed the tractor [the tractor wheels rolled, and were soft rubber] around the bottom of the hard top while it was sitting on the body.

Here are a few pics so you can get an idea.

The pictures were after I did one cut, and it fit almost perfectly. I do want the top to sit lower [just a bit about the roll bar which is still higher than my head] for a more stealthy look so I will cut another pass with the jigsaw, and huge fan tomorrow.

I hope this helps anyone else trying to match the top to the body, as I made a thread here in the past about this, and it seemed that everyone was stumped.

Thanks.

Love it! I'm just about ready to do that to my Mr. Bruce Lemans hardtop. Is the windshield area of your top already cut and sitting in the windshield frame? Or did you prop it up?

Yes its sitting in the windshield frame.

Since you are doing the same thing are you planning on some type of side windows?

If so, it would be nice to fab something that would open the window along with the door.

Any idea's on that, let me know.

Also, I need to know where to get those little threaded aluminum inserts so I can mount the bracket that holds the top down onto the body.

My Cobra already has those inserts installed in the body for a tonneau cover, and I need four just like them for the top hold down brackets.

For side windows, I think I'm going to use a simple flexible clear plastic with a velcro perimeter for attachment. Still need to build gull-wing hatches...I need them to ease entry/exits. I'm getting old and stiff, lol.

Ferrules? Try these guys;https://www.finishlineaccessories.co...-ferrules.aspx

Thanks for your link as it has greatly answered some of my questions.

Can you make me a "ferrel" so I can fab a bracket on the rear of the top where its close to the trunk?

I would like to have an extra bit of hold down in that area.

Here is where I am so far, The taking it on/off for fitting is maddening, but it has to be done.
