Default WC T-5 Sticking in 5th Gear

So this has puzzled the local shops and even the shop that rebuilt it. I can easily shift into 5th gear but it takes quite a bit of force to pull it back out. Drives fine in 5th, just a pain to get out. Doesn't change with clutch in or out. Tried to rev match without clutch, still sticks. Not sure if it matters, but coming out of reverse is just a little sticky.

Went from a 302 to a Ford Racing 392, i'm sure the extra hp and trq didn't help.

Thoughts?

Sounds to me like your linkage is getting bound. 5th and reverse would be the outside edges of the shift pattern left and right (or visa versa). I would check in the tunnel and see if something is showing signs of wear.

The internal fork for 5th reverse, gets wear in the groove/slot that the selector runs in, which allows the selector to twist slightly . its cheap ...just replace the 5th /reverse selector ...

I'd also be looking at the shifter detent plate in the extension housing.

Mine would not come out from reverse, the dents for the balls wear too deep and the ball can't come out of the "dent".

The detent plate comes out with a bit of effort, some welding and remachine the detents, and then the shifter is normal again.
