Spare tire??

Please forgive me if this has already been asked and answered, what does anybody use for a spare tire? Obviously, this only applies to those that drive their toys long distances. If using a space saver donut, what do you look for? I'm thinking the center offset of modern cars might prevent one from a later model car being used. I'd hate to use so much space in that small trunk for a full size tire. Just askin'
Or do you just bring along a can of flat tire goo?

I carry two cans of Fix-A-Flat in the trunk. Haven't needed to use them, and I have had the car almost 10 years now.

Normally carry nothing but on long trips through rural areas carry a can of puncture fixer and puncture fix kit and air pump. Tyres need very little pressure to hold the car up so just pumping it up will keep you going a long way. Last time a valve was torn and with no air you could barely notice that the tyre was flat - certainly ok to drive to a nearby tyre shop.

Depending on your bolt pattern and whether it is pin drive or lug nuts, I have a spare from a Firebird. It is reasonably small and the same height as the 295/50/15 tires.

I also have a jack from the same car as it is only 2" tall when fully retracted, so it is easy to slide under the car.

I only put them in when I am driving long distances though. The rest of the time, it is a can of Fix-A-Flat.

Then there is the question of what do you do with the flat tire/wheel assembly? I do carry a spare and finally had a rear flat. Saved my butt and tire (barely) fit in passenger seat. If not driving alone a choice would have to be made which might put a strain on a relationship...

I use an original street wheel with a G6 as a tire.
As a back up I have a MKVI 16" with low profile Goodyear

I just carry a couple of cans of fix a flat and a tire puncture kit if I am going very far. Otherwise I carry a cheap cell phone to call for help.

Cell phone, roadside assistance on my insurance policy and a can of fix-a-flat, plug kit and small 12vdc air pump. (I'm not sure my 10 year old air pump even works any more as I haven't had a flat in the past 12 years)

One advantage to a street roadster is five wheels and tires all the same size. That spare in the trunk is comforting to have.
