Trailer Tires
Wanted to hear thoughts on trailer tires. Who is the best? What are people using on their trailers etc...? I have just ordered a new 28' Intech Icon and the tires that come standard on it are Trailer King 235-80R16-8 lug. There is an option to upgrade to the Goodyear Endurance tires or the Goodyear LT tires. Thoughts?

I would go with the Goodyear. Intech is a nice trailer, good choice.

I would also check the manufacturing date codes stamped on the side of the tire.
I ordered four new tires from Discount and realized that they were already two years old.
To their credit they picked them up and replaced them with "fresh" tires.
Different sites state that four years is the life of a tire. I had a brand new spare tire that never hit the road blow up while mounted inside the trailer.

I put the goodyear endurance tires on last year, and then took it for 2500 miles.
Absolutely no problems.
I leave in about a week for a 2200 mile run, and the trailer tires are not on my list of things to worry about.
Like them a lot better than the goodyear marathons.

Trailer King are junk tires... Go with the Goodyear if that is the other option.

bh,
Goodyear Endurance is made in the Goodyear truck tire plant in Gadsden, AL. Enough said. Get some.
Don't even consider any of the China bombs.
Tom
PS: I put a set of Endurance on my 3500 pound (empty) 20' enclosed trailer in January and drove a 3000 mile round trip from FL to WI in four days. No problems whatever, including adding 2500 pounds of car and parts for the return trip.

I drove from Ohio to Al. and back with a trailer in 1988. No flat tires, had a home built airplane project in the back. Stopped at a bar called the Fuzzy Duck, don't know why I remember that name.

Do check the sidewall ply listed for whatever tire/brand you go with. Many tires (even E rated) have 2ply sidewalls especially in the radial type tires. Get the heaviest, best constructed tire available and be prepared to replace them at least every 3 years. Trailer tires are not like car/truck tires and age/wear far quicker.
Storing your trailer out of the elements will help preserve the tires/trailer, and if you can get your new tires filled with nitrogen they will tend to stay at the correct air pressure longer.
Additionally you can source 12 and even 14 ply trailer tires.

I have Goodyear Endurance on my fifth wheel. They are US made and are great tires. They are speed rated "N" 87MPH unlike the 65 MPH most trailer tires are rated at. I don't tow over 65 MPH, but the added speed rating is to me, insurance.

Tires
I tow a 35' 5th wheel and have had the goodyear E rated tires loose half of the top. I switched to Less Swab E rated tires for the past three years, you cannot beat their service! I am not a employee or affiliated with them in any way. A old trucker recommended them to me.

Hauss,
If your Goodyear tire experience was over three years ago, they were not the new Endurance, but more likely a Marathon model made in China (AKA China Bombs.) The Goodyear Endurance model wasn't available until about a year ago or a little more.
I've had the Marathons explode...

I only use Carlisle Trailer Tires on my 20ft enclosed trailer. I tow about 10,000 miles a year with it and have never had an issue.
