Default Badge location on 289s

Saw a thread on covering the location of badge placement on the hood and trunk of 289 Cobras, but now can't find it.

Can anybody help?

Thanks Brent. I already had the ERA information. Most of the information on those posts is relevant to 427 cars, but in the absence of anything specific to 289s, I'll use that info as a 'guide'.

Hi Glen,

Just curious...if you go into meditation mode for a bit can you remember any unique words or member handles on the thread you're looking for that might help narrow the search for it? Do you happen to recall how old or what year the thread was, or possibly what forum (Originality, Build Logs, etc.)? Are you confident it was on this site? Did you post in that thread? Brent

Here's one more intersting link that while not specifying location/placement, seems to speak to original 289 badges. I assume if you PM Dan Case or others on that thread they may have information for you?

Hi Larry.
Yes, correct. No badges on factory FIA cars.
My car, though described as “289FIA 'English' spec.”, is loosely based on COB6008, not the Shelby FIA cars.
COB6008 was delivered from the AC factory as “a street car”….“with cut backdoors, wide flares and Halibrand wheels” (ref. Registry). It was, in effect, an English equivalent of an FIA car, and has an extensive racing history.
6008 wore an AC badge on the trunk and a Cobra badge on its nose, although I can’t verify from early pictures whether the Cobra badge was a factory fit by AC.
6008 wore “Powered by FORD” badges as well.

To my knowledge, the only FIA car that wore any badges at all is CSX2323, but after its resto in ’98, it didn’t have them. Most period shots of 2323 show it without badges.

Glen,

When talking with Tom (Alfa02) today he thought you might also try ALF on this site. ALF has had multiple 289 (FIA) cars and per Tom is pretty knowledgable on this stuff. I know they've also talked 289 badging several times themselves.

I asked Dan Case. He has "never made a study of those details".

I think I'll use ERA's 427 info and check to see if that suits my 289 application.

Another question...

Is it better to use the protrusions/studs on the badges to mount them, or remove them, and use double sided tape?

I would much rather have emblems mechanically fastened to the body rather than use tape or glue. Changes in temperature, humidity, possibly water from rain, all could cause the emblem to fall off. And you know that going to happen when your driving, not sitting in the shop.

Larry, what do you (or others) use to secure the studs? Circlips? Do you use anything between the paint surface and the underside of the badge/emblem?

The reason I am questioning the stud method of attachment is that if some light-fingered b@st@rd took a liking to them, the trunk and nose surfaces could be damaged.
Happened to me twice with my Alfa. There are some schmucks out there ....even in little ol' Adelaide.

I use a push nut. There are a few different styles but pretty much all work the same way.
Someone popping it off could damage the body, thats true but it's also true of glue or tape. When he takes out his pocket knife or screwdriver to pop it off, he's going to scratch it or dent the body around the emblem. Of course, he also better be a good runner if I see it happen!
