Road and Track test
The new issue of R and T has an 8 car comparison test to choose which car represents the magazine the most. They included an M5, a Mcclaren, a Miata, a Accura R, A mb gullwing, others and a 289 cobra.
They all took turns driving the car on Lime Rock's track and then voted.
The 289 Cobra won. It was an unrestored car with over 150K miles on it. The owner has the right attitude about it. Drive it and maintain it. He even let 8 journalists drive it on a race track.
Brave man.
Woo hoooo!

Not surprised. A 289 is a nice handling car on the race track. Nice to here that it is being driven still. Cobras were meant to be driven, not stuck in a garage gathering dust.

A misconception in the article....they referred the slabside as being nose heavy. IIRC it was slightly biased to the rear. Very well balanced I believe.

The 289 is very well balanced. In the British tradition, a joy to drive on twisty roads.

A completely unbiased opinion. LOL
p.s. It can still be true, even if you are biased.

Not at all biased, just the driving experience.

But it makes it more exciting to know that with a 427 you're only a toe-push away from spinning the car in to the trees at any given moment.

Certainly, as well as breaking the rear tires loose at 100mph when shifting into 4th. 289 and big block Cobras are both good. As noted earlier beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Finally Patrickt, said what we were all thinking, well balanced & behaved (289) is just fine. But there's nothing better then "Scary Fast" (427) to keep our heart's in shape. I like to think BB Cobras keep us Healthy, nothing like quick shots of adrenaline, during the "Toe-Push" stage. Cheers Tommyrot.

Just take my word for it. If the front wheels are not pointed perfectly straight, and you poke the accelerator pedal quickly with your toe more than about two inches, you'll end up off the road. And if there's a tree there, you'll hit it.

Karlos, how soon you forget, you were in the BB Cobra world for years, even if it was a CHEVY motor At least the FIA car has a FORD in it No offense to the Chevy guys, lets not open that can of worms . The One & Only TommyRot.

Or....try to climb the side of a mountain...or go over a hillside...
So I've been told
