Default Radiator expansion tanks - what colour ??

GDay All

What colour are the radiator expansion tanks for the 427 competition and S/C Cobra’s meant to be. Always assumed black or chrome but I recently read a reference that referred to the picture of an original S/C as having the ‘Proper Ford Corporate Blue’ expansion tank !?!!

After doing a little reading, I guess there were some SC models that came with Ford Blue engines. 1966 Fairlane 427 assemblies. I don’t think that was the majority though, so you can’t go wrong with black.
Ive never seen chrome used originally. Owners may have plated them but that wouldn’t be original.

Some tanks have a “cad plated” look.... but not sure how original that is.

Where are you at with your search, and your research?

Cheers

Blue or Black for S/C is accepted and correct. Depends upon date car was completed.

I had one of those on mine and the only thing I didn't like was that the outside was basic unprocessed CNC aluminum so had the machine marks. My metal tooling guy didn't have time to polish it up so I put it on the car as is and never got the time to take it down and have it finished.
