Smiths reverse speedo trip odometer reset procedure
I found in my old parts pile a cable that I believe is the trip odometer reset cable for my Smiths trip odometer. I was always thinking that it's a push button at the end of the cable, but now that I look at it, it doesn't push but instead it rotates. Do I have the right cable here? Is that the procedure, to snap the cable into a hole in the back of the speedo somewhere then rotate the knob at the end of the cable to roll the trip odometer to zero? I looked here and online and didn't see anything on the Smiths mechanical speedo trip odometer reset procedure.

Yes it rotates/twists to reset. Sounds like you have the correct cable.

Do not perform the reset while moving.

I finally got my reset cable a couple of years ago, and only recently installed it.but it would not clear the tube brace that runs on either side of the transmission cover up to the cowl hoop behind the inst panel. These are installed in originals, CSX's. Kirkhams, and Contemporarys and ERA's .
The only thing I could do is rotate the speedo, but that doesn't look right, so I left the reset cable off. I guess since the 427 was originally designed as a race car, they had no use for a "trip" odometer. Check your car for clearance.

I have the CW Smiths Speedo but I had to make a retaining bracket to be able to install/remove the Odometer cable.
