Default Turn signal / horn button Control head, has anybody done this?

Going thru my car after I initially received it, I paid particular attention to the turn signals switch as it definitely did not work as intended. Made it work, carefully reassembled, tested, Good to Go!! I also changed to the original style steering wheel.

Well, recently it has stopped cancelling left, so time to tear it apart and fix it. Then I started thinking, because I have the old style wheel, why not use an old style turn signal switch / horn button? The "control head". Pic below is CX2000 with one. They were also put on TR3's and big Healey's at the least, probably others. Looking for one now.

The rub here is that they are intended to be used with a worm and sector type of gearbox, which allows the center tube thru the shaft with the wiring. Not goin' there! Which means either a slip ring or wireless.

Any words of wisdom out there for me before I get myself in trouble?

Thanx for the link!! Wireless is the best option I have. Getting info on 3 channel transmitters and receivers, will check out the ones used in the article.

Default Allright, here I go.

Talked to Dave W, across the pond, and decided to go for this.

Researched the control heads / trafficators, found and purchased a very nice one, or part of one, which was all I needed. Since I can't use it as intended, I don't need the mounting, or cancelling, or other stuff that will just get in the way of my intended installation.

Backside with connections, no mounting yet as I will need to design and machine that:

Since I will not have the tube for the wiring down thru the steering shaft as on the Healey, it was either put in a slip ring (NO way) or do it wirelessly. I figured that my garage door opener has been working just fine for years, so that seemed to be the way to go.

And the receiver also three channel with 5 amp relay outputs.

Figured out where I needed to solder wires on to make this thing work

Limit switch for the self cancel is on the way as are relays and sockets to make the whole thing work the way it should. Signals will be self cancelling and able to be cancelled by hand. AND the hazards will function. More later, gotta go do something semi-constructive.

Darn, I should have kept my trade secrets, now, you are going to beat me to the punch, by a long ways! The only way anyone will be able to tell this is not the real deal is, if they are riding with you, their is a camera pointed at the steering wheel or you forget to center the trafficator when you are parked. Can't wait to see it! Cheers, Dennis
