Classic Motor Carriage Cobra
Hi every one. I'm in the process of building a CMC cobra that was bought from the first purchaser. He bought it in '93 and it sat in his barn....(? a barn find?  ) It seems to be mostly there and I'm not having any problems with the build.....alot of mechanical and race knowlage help.  The build manual leaves alot to be desired but the pictures help. It's on 4 wheels and I'm running the lines for the brakes now.
Question: what modificatioins have other CMC builders included in thier build? I don't want just a plain jane cobra...  Any ideas? I just found a IRS in a T-Bird that may be destined for the cobra! Pictures would help too |

You might want to also address it to Street Beasts owners since that is CMC's new incarnation. I believe that they are pretty standardized for suspensions...although ANYTHING can be put into anything else. All it takes is some ingenuity and perserverance.
I believe that other comments I have seen have alluded to a less than stellar assembly instruction book, may be one reason it set so long uncompleted. There are some strong views here about CMC/Street Beasts, you can search the archives for a taste.
The few owners here that have completed their cars seem satisfied with the end result. You might look at the cars listed in various posts and you can track down who they are.

Hey, sounds like you and I are doing the same thing, and at about the same stage of build. For mods...., lots to list, here's a few off the top of my head:
- Upgraded front suspension, chopped arms off frame and went with tubular.
- custom engine mounts
- posi rear, custom coil over shock mounts, raised and cut into bottom of fiberglass to get rear tires higher into body
- FFR wheels, 245/315
- custom removable roll bars, chromed on top, super strong, 1.75" DOM tubing, with removable twin side impact cage down inside of doors to floor.
- custom front torsion bar mounts
- SFI clutch housing and kavalar layered center tunnel around trans, with dual loops for shaft housing
- Walnut veneer dash
- Some fiberglass body improvements
Other than that I think most of the 'mods' will just be mechanical choices such as a 331 engine, and some other more or less common stuff.

Welcome and embrace your build the first time you fire the engine it will all be worth it. Do you have an idea of what you will power the car with BB or SB?
-Ours is 460 powered, cable operated clutch through Tremec to 9"
-Tubular control arms front and rear with coil-overs.
-Undercar exhaust frame modified for clearance.
-Wilwoods front and rear with dual masters.
-Scaled suspension for incredible road manners.
Just to name a few,have fun.

We just made plans to move the radiator mounts today.... see nothing is set in stone.. or steel until it all comes together.
Engine arrives next week.. YES!

Oh the memories! remember all the things that got changed as my build progressed,the radiator mount,motor mounts transmission mounts all got changed or moved.Never liked the door latches from CMC, went with originals.Redid the fuel tank added larger fuel lines added a drain.

LOL.. I changed all that plus put a whole Fox front suspension, 13" Cobra brakes, narrowed 8.8" rear, 11.65" rear disks, hydroboost, 315's on rear, tilt/telescoping column, coilovers all around, etc...etc..etc.
It is not like you can find replacement parts, so make it what you want. |

It uses the power steering pump and hydraulics to boost the brakes instead of vacuum. They work great if you have a radical cam. The Mustang Cobra it installed from the factory. |

You can also install a seperate vacuum pump and canister if your cam is to radical to aid in your power brake system.

Remember seeing Hydroboost for the first time on our bucket trucks back in late 70' early 80's as I remember.At that time they were what was badly needed.They always made a unique sound which I'm certain has been engineered out. |

Honestly, the manual is so outdated and archaic in their recommendations, that it is really worthless. The original CMC manual assumes you are using a Mustang 2 as a donor and takes it from there.
If you are having a problem with a specific item, post it in the Scratch Build or Cobra Build Log and it will get answered.
