CAPE TOWN COBRA..they're everywhere
We got to our hotel in Cape Town, South Africa, this afternoon and there was a nice shiny dark gray Cobra sitting out front. I asked the Bellman about it and found that it was a left over from the Father's Day thingy they'd had. Couldn't be sure what make it was since it had a tonneau cover on so I couldn't see the interior, for any hints. Did have bolt on "Halibrands" so figured it wasn't a Superformance (unless it was a real early one. Seems I heard they came with some bolt ons). Did see pamphlets advertising to rent the car for $180/day+6¢/mile. Doesn't sound outrageous if you've never driven one and feel the need. The economy here in SA is not good so I imagine that keeps the rental price down. I'll pass, although the fender plaque indicated that it has a 383 SBC. Can't be all bad.

Karl,
Don't forget to ask someone about "Searching for Sugarman"; Rodriguez is more popular than Elvis in South Africa. Post some pics for those of us who are not fortunate enough to travel the world !

Ratty tat tat, maybe you are right and the rental is so low because the builder didn't have to spend outrageous money to make a bunch of reliable, long living, horse power since he went with a Chevy engine. He just needs to keep SOME PEOPLE from dropping stuff down the carb.
Scotty, oh fer dumb...Don't know how to post pictures.

Would be a BDR. Low performance, automatic that people don't kill themselves on Chapman's peak drive.
Are you still in Cape Town?
I live at the bottom of Long Street.

Dominic, heading for Krueger tomorrow morning. Have been very impressed with your city and your country. Got a whole lot going for it, just hope the government doesn't screw it up. Best of luck. I've met so many friendly, educated, hard working people, I hope there's a great future.

We arrived at our safari lodge yesterday afternoon and it is outstanding! Spotted lions, zebra, impala, rhino, elephants last night and then had a young rhino get antsy with us this morning. Big excitement! We're also within 10m of three adult cheetahs that were out looking for breakfast. They are not interested in the Rover, but a person doesn't want to be on foot.

So glad you having a good time in SA! Send more tourists :-)
The BDR Cobras were a mere $27.000 a few years back, probably now 35k.
He would make money when selling them! Careful, they are RHD.
