ItZa Comin'
A week from today, I'll blast off to the hinterlands of San Marcos Texas for the Cobra Konklave. (99 Cobras entered) I'm avoiding freeways so will go up through Show Low then Springerville and on to Socorro NM for the first night, Big Spring TX Tuesday night and then San Marcos until Sunday. Planning on stopping by at Hershel Bird's and on seeing lots of the Texas Hill Country. OOh OOh...I WANNA DRIVE!

I landed in Socorro NM this afternoon after a very pleasant 400 mile drive. Got up to 8100' elevation and my minuscule motor was just a LITTLE down on power.
Will do another 400 tomorrow to Big Spring RD and about the same distance Wednesday to San Marcos. MUCH slower today than last week's trail run.
I thought that Grants NM was the garden spot of the Land of Enchantment but Socorro gives it a run for it's money.

Dry, sunny, low 90°s . Socorro NM to Big Spring TX 511 miles today after a little extra site seeing. Wound up in a little TX town that was the county seat and there was not a single gas station. I was down to 4 gallons and MILES from another town. Did get 5 gallons of regular from the co op and that got me down the road where I found a real gas station. I like the little Texas two lane roads with 75 MPH limits (suggestions). Lots of long, straight, see for miles stuff that begs for "spirited" driving. I Did have a little excitement about 10 miles after leaving Socorro. I smell hot radiator and my gauge showed 240°. Found that the lower alternator bolt had worked lose and threw the belt. Fortunately, the belt wasn't dammaged, I had the necessary tools, and a gallon of distilled water. Got back on the road in about 20 minutes little worse for wear. (I do carry a spare belt anyway)
San Marcos tomorrow after about 6 more hours of windshield time.
Big Fun!

Yes, as Bob said he made it. The "Old long haired hippie" is fine, he said "Great People, Great Roads, Great Time" so no time to deal with us "Common Folk" TommyRot.

Darn good time was had by moi. I got a late start Sunday and then stopped off if Fredricksburg, TX, to see an X AZ Cobra, Hershel Bird. Spent 2 or 3 hours with him and then drive to Big Spring. Pretty sure the temperature was close to 100°. Certainly felt like it and I was plenty whipped. Stopped again today in Socorro and now that the extensive street repair is finished, I don't dislike the town as much. I also picked a much better, cheapo motel that's going to provide breakfast. Others I used said they couldn't because of the bug. Not a big deal but a nice perk. Will finish off my last 400+- miles tomorrow. My car is SO dirty! Wonder if my sweetie will get out there and clean it up?

Mark, I'll have to see how my butt tox is doing after almost 3000 miles in just over a week.
